Anyone out there feel the urge to break out the more electronically minded Krautrock, whenever summer turns on the the heat? I swear, each time the weather breaks out in full sun tan mode, like today actually, I get an overhanging craving for electronic music. Just listened to the Kluster this morning and it was absolutely heaven. Then jumped on the bike with Siinai's recent Olympic Games and it was a brilliant ride with loads of synths worming their way into my brain.

I'm the opposite really. When it gets really hot I want some simiilar music. Jammy, rippin' guitar, heavy drumming, explosions of sounds, etc. Kinda like being in a small sweaty cramped over heated room just jamming away for hours on end.

Hey man I really like that stuff too - but then if it's infused with some sneaky electronics, I'm on cloud 9. Just like the album I just finished actually by Igor Wakhevitch.

LOL
I just pictured you as one of the characters from that Allo Allo show...

BTW Steve - seeing as you enjoy Krautrock on occasion, but also listen to a fair amount of avant-garde music. Why not mix the two and get some Ultralyd? New(ish) Norwegian band that mix strange fusion with iron like textures. Sounds pretty teutonic and gruesome, but I personally like it very much.

Oh and do you know Igor Wakhevitch? Maybe not Krautrock, but the way he mixed Zeuhl, avant, electronic and psych does make me question if he didn't on occasion cross into the genre. Anyway he should be right up your alley methinks. In fact I'd bet money on itBig smile

Big smile Thanks for your appreciation.

Anyway, let me suggest "non-Kraut-ish" Krautrock ... Emma Myldenberger.

Thanks David and Colin, and hahhaha, as for Seiichi Yamamoto and Atsushi Tsuyama (Omoide Hatoba), their character and personality should be more Krautly weird than their music itself, actually. LOL

It's especially strange in my case because I don't even consider it my favourite Can album.  I definitely prefer Future Days and Ege Bamyasi, and I might even pick Monster Movie over it, but get 4 beer in me and, well, there you go

On the CAN website, Holger states how Tago Mago was put together out of many hours of improvisations ... he says snip here snip there and up in the air, and voila ... Tago Mago.

It's hard to explain really, but the continuity and experience in that album is so far out there and crazy that it makes it terrific to listen to ... and very enjoyable.

I can't even drink, but closing my eyes and tripping on Augmn or anything else in there is really easy ... and different each and every time, which is even more fun!
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Anyway, as David-bamsen has already listened to, let me suggest another Kraut world named Omoide Hatoba from Japan.

Omoide Hatoba

Hell yeah!!!

I am pretty jealous of you Keishiro - living in Japan and all. You've got a sprawling avant/psych scene happening right under your nose with a hundred different acts most of them touring insistently. These guys, in particular, are just out of this world. I'm talking cowboy-western-beach-boys krautrock with a love of strange toy instruments and Indian chanting! Unique doesn't even begin to describe this band....
And yes Triceratopsoil(or Colin is it?) I'm definitely looking at you. I gather these guys should be right up your alley.

That's some wild stuff.  Reminds me simultaneously of Guru Guru and Massacre.

I definitely know the feeling.
Add to that - Captain Beefheart! Perfect music for a bottle of vodka and a pair of roller-skates.

Back when I drank too much, I would often find a Tom Waits CD in the player the next morning.Beer

And we all know Tom Waits is the poor man's BeefheartTongue
Just kidding... I once found Trout Mask Replica in the stereo after a night on the town - and up until then couldn't quite grasp why my room-mate was in such a sh*tty mood that particular morning... The volume button was high in the red though.

I'm sure I've said this before, but C'est Com...Com... Compliqué is probably my favourite Faust album by now.

What's that album like? I have the first four albums, and I love the first two to death, so I bought Ravvivando and wasn't a huge fan. I definitely have not decided to give up on their later works though, so I'm wondering what I might like to try next.

I've heard most of Faust's latter-day albums (was just listening to one now, in fact), and can say for the most part that I like them all.  They can be a bit one-sided, picking up where the song "Krautrock" and the "Munic and Elsewhere" album left off, that is to say, harsh distorted pummeling jams.  Ravvivando is pretty typical of this approach.  If you like the more unpredictable, eclectic nature of the first two albums, then I can see where this stuff might seem underwhelming.  C'est Com... Com...Complique is probably the most contemplative and texured latter-day album, with some more soothing Stereolab-like moments, and less of the harshness.  One you might enjoy is "Patchwork", which takes the fragment/collage approach of The Faust Tapes and brings it up to date.  I first expected a dumb "remix" album, but it's really better than that.  Another good one is "You Know Faust", which has a more variety and surprises than the average Faust album.

Ravvivando may be my favorite later day Faust album. However, You Know Faust is also wonderful. More like eariler Faust then other later Faust albums. I'd also recommend there lastest two Faust Is Last and Something Dirty as two that really embrace the Faust spirit.
