I don't actually think he's getting worse because I don't think he was ever a good coach in the first place. I am sick of the age bullsh*t though. I want names. The Steelers had never been a team that had any problem dumping players that they thought were past their prime in the past. Could it be that they've held onto a few guys past their prime because this regime hasn't been able to evaluate talent or draft serviceable replacements for their aging players. The only two players I can think of that Tomlin's wanted to cut are Max Starks and Jonathan Dwyer. Seems like he cut Starks every year since he took the job for god knows why because they always ended up signing him back and having him end up as their best lineman. Dwyer because he took himself out too much or didn't stay in shape (?) despite his being the best running back on the team last year and this preseason. They resigned him and he's looked pretty good when they let him in (which they rarely do because Tomlin must think Felix Jones is a better option ). Tomlin was a defensive coach that's missed on defensive draft pick after defensive draft pick and thinks William Gay can play in the NFL despite constant visual evidence to the contrary. If he's involved in talent evaluation he should be fired, if he's involved in team preparation he should be fired, if he's involved in in-game decision making he should be fired, and if he isn't he should be fired.

^ Yes, old and injured, but also making a lot of mistakes. Our defense is far worse than I feared, what a foul stench of a performance they did today against the Pats. At least the Ravens lost, we can fight it out for the AFC North basement.. In two games I watched today, there were some 3rd and 4th downs with inches to go, does anyone remember the old QB sneak!??! Instead they use slow developing running plays or high risk fade routes....

It's probably the fact that the Steelers have gotten old as hell and not really Tomlin getting worse at his job.

I'm actually a pretty happy Lions fan this week. Went into the bye week with a pretty memorable and determined W that shouldn't have happened. Should do a lot for the team's morale, too. Plus, we're getting closer to getting Burleson back, unless he pizzas and drives again.

Jacksonville could beat the Steelers. There isn't a football coach alive that can't outcoach Mike Tomlin (except occasionally John Harbaugh). Somehow he's managed to get worse at his job as the years have gone by (less and less of Cowher's leftovers left for him to survive on). Isn't qualified to coach William & Mary's football team.

F you chargers and vikings.
Anyway, regardless of the outcome of today's game, the Eagles are already 10000% more exciting than in the past two weeks.

WOW the Chiefs defense deserves a collective MVP award for this season. 2 defensive TDs have been 14 of their 20 points. Including that epic 100 yd INT return that obviously swung the game. What amazes me is the worse their offense performs the better their defense steps up.
Speaking of defense, that Jets D line is a force of nature

Also, not a lot of games today that I find terribly interesting. Maybe Atlanta/Carolina (want to see if the Panthers continue to show some promise) and Ravens/Browns (hopefully the Browns take that one so Baltimore doesn't get a full game closer to us), but otherwise I'm waiting for tomorrow night's game.

Yeah Atkins is a special player to have. If you collapse the pocket up the middle you can really mess up a QB, and add to it two pretty darn good edge rushers, no wonder Cincy is so tough. Though honestly, Leon Hall is just as bad IMO, with today's NFL I feel losing a good CB can be the worst kind of loss. You'll be alright though.
Especially since Bernard should be fine. That TD run will be a top 5 play, he has real spark. Unlike BJ "3 yard" Ellis Only Shonn Greene had less "spark" I'm not sure that guy could even move in any way besides straight forward, then down to the ground |
BJGE is great for those 2nd and short or 3rd and short situations. But Gio is definitely our future with the run game.
Although for some reason, Gruden has some unexplained infatuation with BJGE and 1) plays him a heck of a lot more than Gio and 2) likes to try and get fancy with him. You run BJGE down the middle, not have him cut outside. He doesn't have the speed for that, and I end up yelling at my TV several times every game because of it.
I feel a bit better about Geno now though. I mean, we get to see what kind of pick we got in Margus Hunt and the rest of our front 4 defensively is quite good. So while we might not get quite as much explosive pressure as we did before, I think we can adjust. It's still mostly our secondary that worries me.

Thinking about it, that puts them in Patriots land: coast by with subpar teams in a terrible division.

They'll still win the division because they'll be the only ones with a winning record.

In retrospect, I'll probably look back on this moment and laugh. The only time I'll actually watch Thursday night games is if my team is playing because I complain too much about the quality of the game and terrible injuries. And then we get this.
Oh well. We get a few extra days off, the Browns at home, and then our bye. So maybe that'll be enough time to get some more guys healthy.
This is the silver lining part, right?

Deff a huge blow, but at least you still got Johnson, Dunlap and Peko. Sucks though, was deff the best defensive player by far.
Also, after all the talk "wow if Andy keeps this play up and doesn't slip back they'll be unstoppable" right on cue: 4 turnover game
Yes, after being slammed for giving up the run last week they did it again, and let the opponent back again. May just wanna not do that next time Miami |
My only response to that one is: F**k f**k f**k f**k f**k f**k f**k f**k f**k f**k f**k. The only thing that makes me feel a bit better is that we have some depth at D-line. But a guy like Geno is irreplaceable. I won't say it's necessarily over, but idk how we come back from no Geno, no Hall, no Whitworth, no Maualuga, no Mays (the last 2 got hurt right when they were starting to prove themselves), and Bernard questionable.
I think the Bungles should be banned from ever playing in primetime games. Especially ones where they're hyped coming in. I also blame it on being a short week, tons of injuries (which continued to mount last night), and the lack of time to game-plan definitely showed.
We could have gotten beat by 30, and that probably wouldn't make me feel any worse. It's like a hollow feeling in my stomach.

At this point, I honestly don't care about whether we won, lost, or tied. I'm going to be holding my breath tomorrow for Geno and Gio. It looked like Gio will be okay, but if Geno's out for any extended period of time, I worry about this defense. We already have enough guys injured, especially on that side of the ball. But if we're missing him we're in trouble.I will have my fingers crossed for that MRI tomorrow. |
Initial reports do not look good...torn acl and out for the year. Of course not confirmed, but bad any way you look at it.
