But why is life necessarily better with them? What would be bad about people outgrowing them and living with a clear mind free of dependencies? Don't you find it alarming that you require medication to feel at ease and happy? Don't you concede that there will be deaths due to people being stoned or drunk during times of crisis or conflict? For example, if a house catches fire, and those inside are drunk or high, they are far less likely to respond appropriately.

^Textbook: So it would be lazy and stupid of me to not oppose to you. I
think forbidding drugs and everything that isn't "good" for you
including alcohol is what's genuinely dangerous. I don't believe in
anarchy, but I'm certain that people need space and a feeling of
freedom. Drugs, wine, beer is medication for all your selfish and
shortsighted (of course I think you are one who's selfish and
shortsighted) people. It exists, its a part of the history of mankind
and good for a lot of things, as well as bad. Selfdestructive people
will be selfdestructive with or without drugs, and that's their choice
and responsibility. + we are mainly talking about marijuana here. My
grandmother uses a lot more harder, but legal drugs than that.

Also, I think you don't understand what tolerance is Rocktopus. If you think something is genuinely harmful, and I think drugs and alcohol are genuinely harmful, opposing it is not intolerance. On the contrary it is a moral obligation to oppose things you believe to be dangerous. Tolerance is allowing things you find merely annoying/irritating to occur. Allowing things you believe are destructive and dangerous to occur isn't tolerance, it's stupidity and/or laziness.

Rocktopus: Left to their own devices, people make the wrong choices. Call me cynical but they do. It's why anarchy doesn't work. They're selfish and shortsighted. Wanting to get high, thus creating an environment where their minds and bodies don't function properly, paving the way for any number and type of disasters, is part of that.

Forget marijuana, I'd like to see alcohol criminalised. It's the same as guns. The fact is that narcotics and alcohol do have a negative effect on the whole of society. You might not directly murder people through their use, but they are definitely negative. Don't give me that "Oh it's just for me, I can decide what goes in my body" nonsense, we all live on the same planet and in the same society. You messing yourself up is going to affect other people for the worse.
However my attitude is a bit like on the burqa. I don't really want it banned as prohibition doesn't work, but I'd like to see the human race outgrow alcohol/drugs. I'm pretty sure they never will though.
But if alcohol was discovered today, it'd never be legalised. |
I like to see the human race outgrow criminalization of alcohol/drugs. That's where the seriously negative effects on society lies. I think you are the selfish one here, and not people that want to decide for themselves what to do with their own body. You seem to have no understanding or tolerance for people with different needs and preferances than yourself.

I also find Amp quite delicious. Not red bull though. And yes, weed should be legalized... What age? 21? 18? 14?

It was more a mental thing Henry, like after feeling like I may die I was naturally buzzed. Obviously the actual drink didnt last for that long. Besides I did 30 hours once completely on willpower(stupidity).
It does have an effect on me though because I never drink coffee (llama its sooo nasty) and rarely soda. I don't have a caffeine tolerance!

A bit over a year ago I was moving and I stayed up all night packing. The following morning I bought a box of dunkin donuts coffee for the movers and some donuts. They didn't touch the coffee or the food, so I at a box of donuts and drank seven cups of coffee and cherfully went to the movies (the new Star Trek.) When I left the theater I started to feel desperately hungry and on the subway ride home I came very close to losing consciousness. It was really scary. Drink coffee in moderation, kids.
I drink coffee and soda and alcohol, but have never had any problems at all with dependency. I guess I don't have that sort of personality.

Sex addiction is definitely a real thing, even if you don't like the terminology.

Wooow, I never stayed up even close to that long. I'm pretty sure I hit over 24 hours, but I definitely never hit even 48, good lord.

Ha! Yeah sex addiction, that always gave me a laugh. And not saying alcohol is as bad as coke, but really alcohol abuse can seriously mess you up.
Before I keep repeating, moderation is the key to all

I once drank two giant cans of Amp before bed, but I fell asleep just the same.
