All great games. I didn't know there was a Friday the 13th game for NES, but then I saw that this is a North America exclusive, so that's why ![]() |

Thank you Luna, that helps. And there does happen to be a store where people play, not too far from here. I might have to check it out sometime if I can ever ditch this job

There are several different formats so it depends. The format that I play most often involves large multiplayer games lasting 1-2 hours, but the most popular format is 1v1 with 30 minute rounds (best of 3 games). If you were to play Standard (the latter format), you would have to replace cards as new sets rotate out which is every 8 months. A typical TOP TIER standard deck is $200-300, but a $50-$100 deck is perfectly viable. There are non-rotating formats (namely Modern) which are inherently more costly. The investment is closer to $400-$800 (for Modern), but you'll never have to worry about rotation and you have much more time to assemble your deck. Modern is much more skill intensive than Standard and I wouldn't recommend it for beginners. If you want to just start out, I'd recommend buying an Event Deck wherever you'd buy Magic cards. It's a pre-made deck designed to be viable in Standard and it's $15. Your store should have FNM (Friday Night Magic) where you can play against others and get help from more experienced players. If you don't want to build a deck, you could play a format called Draft at your FNM. For that format, you take 3 booster packs and open one, choose a card, pass the pack to your left, then choose another card from the pack passed to you until you have a deck. This format is probably the best for beginners since you get to learn basic interactions and there's no high investment (it's usually ~$12 per draft). Hope I could help.

Interesting. Short games, but expensive because you have to keep buying new cards all the time?

Yeah, the game was actually originally meant to be played in between D&D sessions as a shorter, more instantly gratifying game. Typically a game of magic won't last more than 20 minutes if that, most games are closer to 5 or 10. But while it takes up less time, it makes up for it in its financial hurdles.

This looks really fun.
![]() Is this a game that is less of a chronic time suck as D and D? Can you have fun in shorter and less frequent blocks of time? |

Oh hey forgot about this thread. Pre-release went well. I didn't preform well, but I got a promo Sidisi and pulled a Polluted Delta. I've been playing Magic less often cause I'm beginning to apply to colleges which is worrisome (for financial reasons). I still have a few (3-4) hundred bucks to go on my faerie deck and I really hope to finish it before I'm broke.

The mechanics of Tarkir are definitely awesome; I can't wait to get more from that set.
I've been re-collecting NES titles like there's no tomorrow. Friday the 13th (a commonly-trashed, misunderstood, and mis-played title) is still my personal favorite on the console. I've been playing that one a lot lately! Castlevania, Contra, Super Mario Bros. 1-3, etc. Just plain good games with tons of replay value, regardless of their age

Cool! What do you think about the game mechanics on that one?
I never owned a classic NES. My stupid neighbour had one that worked, but he put that 'old thing' in the trash. ![]() What cool stuff did you buy? |

Yes, I got a launch day box. I haven't gotten anymore since then, however, due to the reasons you've just stated above.
I'm getting back into collecting classic NES stuff as well.

You get +8 life, tokens count as creatures.
They don't count to "creature goes to graveyard" abilities though. Edited by Meltdowner - September 19 2014 at 08:41 |

Indeed it is! Gives you +1 each turn if I'm not mistaken (for each goblin you have attacking), and gives you a 1/1 goblin creature token!
Here's a question we were arguing over the other night: do tokens get considered "creatures" once out on the field, and are thus subject to all the effects of anything with the term "creature(s)" in it? I couldn't find a reasonable answer to this, and we're still wondering. For example, if I play a card that says "Gain 2 life for each creature on the battlefield", and there are four creatures and four creature tokens - am I getting +4 or +8 life?

Not only do I know that card, I have it in my goblin deck! Also, Goblin Rabblemaster ![]() Awesome link, btw! I'm so excited for the new expansion! Picking up some new card sleeves today, actually. Speaking of which; do you guys/gals prefer Ultra Pro or Dragon Shields? All we have around here is the former, and I've never been too keen on ordering sleeves online and waiting for them (unless someone can prove it's worth it).
