Try Djam Karet, all instrumental, nothing like 70's psych but occasionally experimantal and spacey with 2 great guitarists. They have a knack of sounding like they're jamming and structured at the same time.
They're here on the archives.

Another good band is Korai Orom - Ozric-style jamming with some ethnic influences. I think all their albums are untitled, but I recommend the one from 1997.

I'm a big fan of Ozric Tentacles and have been searching around for similar bands. In my opinion the only band that comes close is Hawkwind. I've tried Gong, Porcupine Tree, Steve Hillage and Amon Duul but none of them makes me feel like Ozric Tentacles do.
Are the Ozrics unique or are there other great psychedelic instrumental bands out there that I don't know about?
Bob.

Hi Bob, I'm a fan of the Ozrics and many of the other psychedelic bands that have been reccomended by other members here, now i think you may like an album called Liquid by a band called 35007, its full of slow building synthesizers and has got this psych hypnotic trance- groove thing going on. (although it does get into a bit of stoner territory at times).
Another band that ive heard recently that is very close to Hawkwind and the Ozrics is Band Of Rain and the album Deep Space. they are here in the archives check them out!

The Gong album for you is... You! To my mind the Ozrics took the sound
of this album and based an entire career on it. Not that that's a bad
thing - it's a bloody good sound!
Earlier Gong is probably too "wacky" for you and later Gong too much
like jazz fusion, but that one album is basically the root of the Ozric
Tentacles sound.

Which Gong or Amon Düül albums did you try? And are you aware that there are three different bands named Amon Düül (Amon Düül (German), Amon Düül 2 (German) and Amon Düül (British))? Of Amon Düül 2 I recommend "Phallus Dei", "Yeti" and "Wolf City", of the British Amon Düül I recommend "Hawk Meets Penguin", "Meetings With Men Machines - Unremarkable Heroes of the Past" and "Die Lösung" ("Die Lösung" has Ed Wynne and Joie Hinton of the Ozric Tentacles as guest musicians!!!). The original Amon Düül are a very acquired taste, better try them last.
Of Gong I recommend the Radio Gnome Trilogy ("Flying Teapot", "Angel's Egg" and "You"), also "Camembert Eletcrique" and the live albums "Live etc.", "Gong Est Mort - Vive Gong", "Live au Bataclan", "Live on TV", "Live in Sheffield".
Of Steve Hillage only the first four studio albums and his live album "Live Herald" are worth buying (also the semi-official "BBC Radio Sessions"; this one you should love as an Ozric Fan).
Of Hawkwind you should love "Warrior On the Edge of Time" And "Space Ritual", but they have lots of gems; very difficult to pick some.

BaldFriede, thanks for your advice about albums.
I got Gong Live2InfiniTea and in my opinion it was OK. I also bought a Gong Best Of while I was in New York once but it was so strange for me, I took it straight to a second hand shop! Sorry!
The Amon Duul II CD I got recently was Yeti. That was very strange for me too but I'll give it another try soon. I have heard that the latest incarnation of Amon Duul (I think that's the British one?) is very similar to Ozric Tentacles.
I bought Steve Hillage's Green album. That is fine to listen to but it didn't really get my attention.
I really love Hawkwind though. I've got loads of their albums. My favourites are "Yule Ritual", "Palace Springs" and "Electric Tepee".
It's my own personal taste that I generally like music that is produced after 1980, contains lots of synths, psychedelic sounds and little (or no) vocals. That's why I love Ozric Tentacles. I know that a lot of people love the 1970's psychedelia but that's not my thing. Of course music is always a personal thing.

You can download their EP "HDRSF-01" for FREE from their website . It's very long, 35 minutes.
Try http://synphonic.8m.com for their full albums.
