So true Guigo, John McCain is a class act all the way and would have been a great president 8 years ago. Most of my family are Republicans and I warned then 8 years ago that they were making a big mistake picking Bush over McCain. I don't bug them about it, but I'm sure they agree with me now. |

I think the concession speech was the best thing to come from his campaign. |

John McCain proved today (or yesterday), when conceding victory to Barrack Obama to be a great man and a great US citizen; I believe he expects this kind of greatness regarding his supporters too.

I'd rather have stayed out of the discussion (even if, as a future US citizen and the soon-to-be wife of one, I feel entitled to participate), but I'd like to add my endorsement of what John just wrote above me. I wonder if one can be so oblivious to the extremely difficult situation of their own country, and wish death on someone just because they don't share that person's ideas, regardless of the havoc such an event would wreak on the country (not to mention at the international level). Therefore, I can't help thinking such fantasies are a tad disturbing, to say the least. Has hatred for one's adversary become stronger than love for one's own country's welfare?

You were right about the riots after the election, we read your post and there was an immediate riot of laughter in our house. I hope your assassination fantasies don't come true, it would be hard on his wife and daughters as well as the rest of the country. Edited by Easy Money - November 05 2008 at 13:21 |

There are lots of veterans in my immediate and extended family including a permanently wounded step-son, a highly decorated brother-in-law general, who was promoted because of his daring recue attempts, and many, many others. I'm sure they admire McCain, but the ones that will talk about it think that Bush and Rumsfield are total jackasses. Edited by Easy Money - November 05 2008 at 13:19 |

While over 350 electoral votes is a landslide, 52% of the popular vote is much less so. Additionally, voters seem to have shied away from giving the Dems the 60 seats they so desperately wanted.
And the fact that all of these anti-gay and anti-affirmative action props passed so easily, even in California, shows that despite Obama's beautiful speeches we are still as bitterly divided as ever. :(

We have a saying for that in Italy, it's called 'first let's get armed, then YOU leave!" BTW, I know (and you do too) somebody who IS a veteran, and today is anything but pissed... Probably he's stupid, as someone stated in an above post. Edited by Raff - November 05 2008 at 11:03 |

It's not too late for you to be a veteran, why don't you enlist? Do it today! |

Did anyone see that phenomenal blonde photographer who had been following Obama on his campaign? ABC spoke with her for a little bit and I swear I had a mini heart attack! I'm not an Obama supporter, but I's sure likes his photographer!!!

Congrats to Obama and all who voted for him from this side of the pond . Well done to everybody.
I am delighted, and Obama will prove to be better than Dubya ( is it possible to be worse?) and better than our present incumbent at No.10. Having said that, I'd rather have Brown than Cameron.
It's just a shame it hasn't been Al Gore for the last 8 years, as it probably should have been.
Roj stokes up and fuels another "discussion".

No sour grapes from me. I'm dancing at the feet of my lord. So are my puppies 'cause they're going for their morning dump in the park. |

Yes, my memory isn't so short that I don't remember Republicans constantly blaming everything that's gone wrong the past 8 years on Clinton. Oh, and by the way. This is what a real mandate looks like. Of course just like Clinton they are already eager and will be working hard to undermine Obama's administration. I had turned away from the election coverage and my wife woke me with the good news. Amazing to see two pages had been added to this thread since my post this morning and all the sour grapes coming from some people. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Stretching the truth or not: It still doesn't look like you actually know what you're talking about. |

I just got up. My dogs aren't displaying any out of the ordinary behaviour. The usual excitement before the morning walk as if I've forgotten and they have to remind me. The budgies are chirping. Just glanced out the window and the nieghbour's anuual Christmas reindeer display complete with Rudolph hasn't gone up yet. The sky hasn't fallen and I predict another great day to be alive. Is that being positive about all this or what ?
