I'm surprised SEBTP won. I think its a great album (4 stars), but not a masterpiece. I would have preferred Foxtrot or The Lamb at the top, at least when it comes to Genesis. Close to the Edge should have come in AT LEAST top 3, and Relayer is definitely top 10. |
All subjective opinion and in the eyes of the beholder. SEBTP is a flawless masterpiece in my opinion. Lamb is overwritten with some really obscure lyrics. Tony Banks is in top form but can anyone tell me where is Steve Hackett apart from one song on the first side? I can only conclude that Hackett lost interest in the concept of the album and stopped contributing at some point. |
Which one SEBTP or TLLDOB? Personally, I think Steve is more present on Selling England. You have dancing and ofcourse firth of fifth. On lamb he's heard on "counting out time" and elsewhere too but that one stands out. Steve's presence is felt more on the first two post Gabriel albums.

Yes, the list still looks great!
Perhaps needs updating though now with the excellent albums of 2011 |
I do have enough time on my hands this summer. It's not beyond the realm of possibility (given demand)

Wow people are still commenting on it. Thanks for the support all. If I had as little of a life as I did back then I'd keep it up with more lists.

Selling England by the Pound has more high points than any other Genesis album and it used to be my favorite but I think A trick of the tail is their most solid album over all now. There is nothing weak on there where as SEBTP has some fluff like more fool me.

Very Dissappointed at the placement of Marillion's Misplaced Childhood album. It grabs you in and takes you for a very nice ride. There is ALMOST no fault in this album. Instrumentaly and lyrically sound.

I have just recently reviewed Trespass. It IS a 5 star album. please read my review. I am in complete agreement with you on LAMB. I listened to it back to back for first time and only cared for cuckoo cacoon, carpet crawl and title track. My favorites now are "The Lamia" and "In the Rapids" flying keys by Banks. Love it dearly. Steve. SEBTP? Well, it deserves every bit of praise. The Battle of Epping Forest is well it is yeah, you all know what I mean. and Harold Demure who's still not quite sure, fires acorns from out of his sling! Come together.

One hundred albums is enough. One thousands songs is a waste of time.

This is a good list that will definatley help me hear more good prog. The one thing I don't get is why Lark's Tounges in Aspic is on there. I haven't listened to the whole album, but I have listened to all four parts of the song, which I had to force myself to do. To me, it sounded like an unsuccessful experiment, one that didn't really go anywhere. But perhaps the other tracks on the album are better. |
There is a lot more to LTIA than just the title 2 tracks (only parts 1 & 2 are on the album, latter parts are on other albums). It is a fabulous album, disturbing, dark, moody but a work of genius!
