Probably not. I could not remember which exactly pop-band they remind me at their worst moments. Now I'm pretty sure it's a-ha. Ha-ha.

Queen definitely don't belong here, but they are not the only ones...

Rhapsody is the only one on the list I don't see as prog. I don't understand all the votes for Radiohead. I really hate them but they're probably the most prog on there besides Mogwai perhaps.

Radiohead - only if 95% of the crap that people are calling prog is eliminated as well...
Queen - a vote for yes.. shows that you haven't listened to their early albums
Deep Purple - same damn thing... ^

Are you sure? Wanna join the Symph team and see the truth from close up? BTW, I voted for my beloved compatriots, the one and only Rhapsody of Dire... Though I'd gladly see the back of Nightwish as well. But then... WHO THE HECK VOTED FOR DEEP PURPLE? This is not to be borne!

IMO only Mogwai from this list are prog.
But the question is put incorrectly. "Which band should not be in ProgArchives?" - You had to clarify "from which perspective"? Prog or non-prog is highly disputable matter. There are too many non-prog bands already added here. But as long as ProgArchives' aim is to become the most powerful database of music with inclusive tendencies, all bands listed should be here. And more to come...

Is that some obscure Scottish slang for onanism,Bob?
Or is that walking the dog....?
Ok,I'll go away and find something constructive to do like close down a few Rush polls....

This poll would have been more constructive and balanced had there been an option to say all those bands have a place here.
As it stands, the question is similar to "Have you stopped kicking your dog?".

Coldplay never did anything like Kid A. And they never will.
Radiohead have reinvented themselves with almost every album, and
every different direction offers something new and challenging.
|
Transend. You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. And
Nightwish should be in the poll, not Radiohead. Voted for Lacrimosa.

Too bad the site's policy has always been to be inclusive and complete. |
What percentage of relation or influnce does a band need to be included in the all inclusive and complete website of progarchives? Is a band who is 1% influnced by prog and 99% by something else still under the inclusive and complete banner? Is a band who does not identify with prog but is techncal or different (but does not sound like anything that comes from the 70's prog movement) still prog or should be under the inclusive banner on this site? Is a band who takes from some of the same influnces that prog originaly did but in a totaly different way that bypasses prog all together still resigned to the prog label. Is a band that is creative and non mainstream and may have listened to a Yes album in the past considered prog? If I was new to Progressive rock I would learn very little of what "prog" realy is from this site. How many times do I have to explain that Sigur Ros is not a prog rock band and thier sound comes more from dream pop and the unrelated (to prog) experiaments of the ninteys than anything that came out of the prog movement. Is techno prog because they used electronics in the 70's? If this site is going to keep all these bands and claim everything under the sun with the banner of prog it should strongly define its labels about what "true\actual prog" realy is and what is on the site for completists purpuses. There is a definte "prog" sound and formula that this site should focus on and not be so cluttered with non prog(as good as it may be).

A good 35 - 40% of bands on this site have very little to do with prog if anything at all. Prog metal is now including anybody that may have a technical edge (ask a Meshugga fan what prog metal is and you will probobly get a blank stare). Most Post rock artists do not consider themselfs prog or claim any influnce (More than one major critic praises Sigur Ros "thank god they are not prog rock", it is on thier site). This site should have some integrety and only include "true Prog" bands who play or are directly influnced from the movement.
