hmmm...
let's say I had a date with death... and he (or she of course... if
you're married you'd understand) awaits at the fruit stand on Highway
666 only 45 minutes away.. which album would I choose for my final
drive...
..
..
Traffic - John Barleycorn must Die
though taking into account my ability to laugh in the face of death (amoung other things).... Il Balletto di Bronzo - Ys

Since I drive a diesel, the engine is always somewhat hearable. Therefore I don't like music with very soft passages, or music where I have to attend multi-layers (also because of concentration). Therefore my favourite car music is music with strong, well defined soloing like The Division Bell of Pink Floyd, or some metal like Metallica or Iron Maiden. Recently I'm playing both Riverside CD's quite a lot. Today I had to drive 2 hours, I played them both.

Something brutal : Suicidal tendencies' "lights, camera, evolution" or Metallica's "master of puppets"
or a compilation of smashing hits of the eighties : Pat Benatar's "Invincible", Belinda Carlisle's "Heaven is a place on earth", New Order's "true faith", Outfield's "your love", Jane Wiedlin's "rush hour", nena's "99 luftballons", Bon Jovi's "living on a prayer", OMD's "enola gay", depeche mode's "enjoy the silence", duran duran's "save a prayer".

How ironic.
For me, Boston's debut is the best there is when it comes to driving albums.

I think the car is the best way to get to know a new album. I drive for work, so I liten to a lot of music in my car. I've had to give up listening to Rush in the car, because I speed more. Most of the time what I listen to in my car resembles what I listen to everywhere else

Driving home when I may need to keep awake. Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind, Number of the Beast, Early Saxon, AC/DC recordings with Bon Scott, 70's Status Quo, Helloween, Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray.
Drving there when I need to mellow out with the traffic jams, Yes, Tull, early to mid 70's Genesis, Camel etc
