well lets see...i used to only like punk and garage rock, which got me into the stooges and the velvet underground. the velvets got me into the 60's and psychedelia and stuff.
my then i got 'piper at the gates of dawn' which blew my mind, but thats psyche, not prog. i think it was soft machines first if you would consider that prog.but my first deffinate prog purchas was ITCOTCK cus that was early enough to still be in the psychedelic era. but then again, ive had 'overnite sensation' by zappa for 6 years now, is that prog?

anyways

then i branchd off into more and more prog. and here i am

For me too...I was about 14, and had ordered it from a cheesy "Record 'o the Month Club", based merely on its cool cover. Have to say, it changed my life. Then when "Close to the Edge" came out, suddenly the possibilities inherent in music became clear in my teenage mind.

Spellbinder by Uriah Heep, but I didn't know they were considered prog back then.
The first albums I bought after getting into prog was The Yes Album and Bo Hansson's Lord of the Ring.

Thank you!Clap

Well, it seems a heck of a lot of people were introduced to prog by Pink Floyd in some way, whether it be by Meddle, or Dark Side, or Animals, or even Momentary Lapse.

Relayer, perhaps? That album has brought many people to progressive music.

If there was a snake in the lower right corner then its relayer yes :)

Actually my introduction to Prog Rock was Opeth and Porcupine Tree. I had heard some Pink Floyd ofc but not really the Progressive Music they made. Shortly after followed by ELP, Yes and KC.

I had almost forgotten that I heard Dark Side of the Moon as a kid in the 70s. It was so different to the pop music I heard on the radio or saw on Top of the Pops. The way the individual songs flowed together fascinated me, the minimalism of the record sleeve intrigued me. When I became I teenager I got hooked on Rush, King Crimson, Tangerine Dream, Genesis and Yes, but Pink Floyd was the one!
