This "warm" quality might be described as a low pass filter effect (CDs usually contain frequencies beyond 18khz while vinyls don't).

But it's very interesting that you cannot get a CD to sound like vinyl, no matter how you EQ it... Wink

Numeric sounds thin and harsh cause informations are missing.

^ maybe they'll someday invent a filter which creates this effect ... if it exists. Of course it may also be caused by the emotions most of us associate with vinyls ... I wonder how double blind tests would turn out.

Agreed ... Steven Wilson is a sound quality perfectionist. I'll definitely buy the vinyl edition too if I get the chance ... I also have the DVD-Audio version.Embarrassed

The bumblebee does not know this... LOL

A couple of years ago it was proven that bumblebees actually can fly. That's probably the reason why they do.

Science can prove anything it likes Wink

However, the "proof" of the urban myth about the bee came about after comparing bumblebee wings to 747 wings - which is a bit like comparing an oil-based vinyl compound with an aluminium-based material, given that bumblebee wings are not rigid like a 747's wings Tongue
The important thing is not to stop questioning.

I do prefer ELP's Brain Salad Surgery, Genesis Nursery Cryme, and Pink Floyd's Meddle on vinyl its just a real shame that vinyl is fading away.

I'm still very much into my vinyl these days, the fascination hasn't abated especially  since upgrading my system, and digging through my old records is great fun, so it's lucky i never got rid of them!

Still play cd's, though wish some new releases came in LP  form, such as the new PT album.Smile

Has the new PT already been released as LP? I bought the limited edition (DVD-Audio) instead ... I think that 5.1 DVD-Audio is currently the best possible format, but whether it works or not of course depends on the mix.

I buy CDs but the one thing I really regret is selling my vinyl Zep boots.. some came with beautiful gatefold covers and great photos.

^ interesting analogy. But while I believe in bumblebees I still don't think that humans can hear beyond 20khz (make that 18khz for almost any adult person) ... which is why I don't think that Olivier's usual "numeric is bad" argument is valid.
