Great that this thread is still vividly running  but now undercover as 'Prog Andaluz'  !

Great contributions by all , thanks to Carakhallo for the additional information about Spanish prog.

Sean Trane (Hugues Chantraine) wrote good reviews about Pan & Regaliz as I remember, Andrew, I have never heard this known band .. ..

Sometimes I am too deadly serious, Avestin  ..

Have you asked your boss for more money, Micky  ?

Oh, and there's this band, Triana...

Triana? WHO...?

I would say Asfalto played basically rock music, with some prog influencies.

Asturcón were from the same region as Senogul, Asturias. They edited only one album and it's Asturian-prog-folk(celtic) music (here it goes another sub-genre for you, Erik!)

Cal played prog-Andaluz in the same way as Cai and Triana, but less refined.

Crack is a must-have of Spanish prog, very gentle, nice arrangements, good symphonic prog.

Iman is another very good band from the south of Spain, they also played prog-Andaluz. They edited two albums and both are worth to have if you like the style.

I own Al Otro lado by Asfalto, a very pleasant album with harder-edged guitar play, lots of rocky rhythms and wonderful, varied keyboards, in my opinion their best work. Ibio made an album entitled Cuevas De Altamira, this one features beautiful folk and some awesome Mellotron waves. Harnakis is Marillion inspired neo-prog delivering very sensitive electric guitar runs. Many bands on your listen do I still have to discover!

By the way, TRIANA  is a MUST !!!!!

many bands do I still hve left to discover as well hahahah..

Triana is on my list of next to get.

Informative as always, mon cher Erik,

BTW - You do realize I was joking about Triana, don't you?

I have heard of some Spanish bands not mentioned here thus far (I think) and some are not in PA. Do you know them? (be careful, I'm gonna flood this thread now ). This list may also serve for those who really want to take a deep dive into the Spanish prog scene.

AKELARRE (not in PA),

ALQUILBENCIL,

ASFALTO (not in PA),

ASTURCON,

CAL,

CRACK (Erik added this),

ENBOR,

ERROBI  (not in PA),

 GRANADA (Erik's addition),

HAIZEA,

HARNAKIS,

IBIO,

IMAN CALIFATO INDEPENDIENTE (Erik's addition)

ITOIZ  (Erik's addition)

ITZIAR

IZUKAITZ

KOTEBEL

LISKER

That's enough.

Oh, and there's this band, Triana...

Go ahead, Andrew, I have added Alameda to this site and looking forward to reviews  ! By the way, CBS has released their first four albums (79-83) on a nicely priced 2-CD set, highly recomended!

hahahha... I have the same daydream... only with a  Rickenbacker slung across my back.

Guitar player Santi Pico delivers great work on the early Neuronium albums and I still have to check out Gualberto, good recommendations DallasBryan, thanks!

By the way, don't forget the current Spanish progrock scene featuring interesting work from Unoma, Bijou, Dr. No, Zaguan and Senogul (see my reviews).

Neuronium's debut rivals the same period releases
from Klaus Schulze and Tangerine Dream, his
sound is unique and their are parts that appear to be
swipped by Froese and company just after Quasar
was released. Although they were based in Spain,
Michael Hyugen? is Belgian, making this also the
best 70's release by a native belgian.

Thanks for that, I saw another recommendation for them and I will track and listen to it.

oh my.... just saw the Osanna CD/DVD.. and read your review of it... Osanna might take priority over Prog Andaluz... at least right now hahahhah.  The nail was seeing Gianni Leone from Ill Balletto di Bronzo was on it (YS is probably my favorite prog album outside of The Yes Album and ELP's debut)

Wonder if the DVD is compatible with U.S. players....
