Broadsword isn´t one of my favourite, but some of the extras are great. I agree with you, Jack-a-Lynn is one of them. I like "Slow marching band" a lot. "Jack Frost" and "Mayhem maybe" too.

The remaster missed some strong bonus stuff though, but it would have been a double album, which the band may have not wanted. But you gotta admit the drum sound on Beastie on Jackalynn is a bit of a turnoff

I've owned the remaster of 'Broadsword...' for a while now, and I must say I enjoyed the original album considerably. 'Broadsword' had some haunting guitar work, and 'Beastie' was an excellent opener. All in all, I consider the original album to be an excellent translation of 70s Tull into the 80s.

jackalynn full acoustic was on the rocks on the road ep. But it's still from 1981. I have this version on my site if you wanna check it out.

Yea, Broadsword is a pretty good album, but I agree about the drum sound.

The year 1981-1982 was very important for Tull's new musical direction and rich TONS of new material and stunning songs as for Jack-A-Lynn, my favourite one by far!!!![](smileys/smiley4.gif)
BTW I prefer the newest version of Jack Frost from the Christmas album![](smileys/smiley9.gif)

Many would agree Broadsword wasn't a great Tull abum. Some of it is very good and some of it is average. I don't like the drum sound and drum beat on Beastie at all, but most of the album is well recorded. There are 16 outtakes for this album and some are very good, some are mediocre, but there are some great additions. What do we think?
Broadsword 1
Beastie Clasp Fallen on hard time Flying colours Slow marching band Broadsword Pussy Willow Watching me watching you Seal Driver Cheerio
Broadsword 2
Jack frost and the hooded crow Jackalynn Mayhem maybe Too many too Overhang Rhythm in gold I am your gun Down at the end your road Jackalynn-full acoustic version Crew Nights Curse Commons brawl No step Drive on the young side of life
Lights out Motoreyes
There are one or two songs with a mediocre drum sound on broadsword 2, but most of them are well recorded. there are very good songs such as too many too, i am your gun, down at the end of your road, motoreyes and jackalynn(full acoustic version with no drums). these are must have tull songs and they outclass most of the original broadsword album. there are also a handful of other decent songs like curse, crew nights, commons brawl, drive on the young side of life and jack frost. broadsword 2 wins quite comfortably ![](smileys/smiley2.gif)
