Those two are probably in my top five, along with his debut, Wuivend Reit, the archive release Early Beginnings, and his newest, Iter Meum. |

Instant City was an instant hit with me too, worthy of no less than four stars, and having just listened to this amazingly versatile album again, I've instantly upgraded it to the full five stars. ![]() ![]() Coming up next..... Paul Haslinger's solo albums.

HUGE Johannes Schmoelling fan! Everything after Instant City should be no less than four stars, except maybe The Immortal Tourist.
Early Beginnings contains previously unreleased music from his TD heyday, and it's utterly fantastic. A Thousand Times is another standout. Next to Edgar Froese, Johannes Schmoelling has the best solo discography of any TD alumnus. ![]() |

Tangerine Dream Team: Passed and Presence
JOHANNES SCHMOELLING Following the departure of Steve Jolliffe & Klaus Krueger after the Cyclone (1978) & Force Majeure (1979) albums, Tangerine Dream returned to a classic keyboard trio with Johannes Schmoelling, who was largely responsible for the reinvention of Tangerine Dream as an eighties hit-making maschine phenomenon, with best-selling albums of shorter songs such as Exit (1981) and Le Parc (1985), as well as some outstanding soundtracks including Thief (1981) and Legend (1986). In addition, Johannes Schmoelling featured in many classic live performances of the period, most famously when Tangerine Dream became the first western band to play in East Berlin in January 1980, subsequently released as the Pergamon (or Quichotte) album. Finally, after an exhausting six years of relentless touring and recording with Tangerine Dream, Johannes Schmoelling decided to call it quits, marking the beginning of a long career as a solo artist spanning five decades. Das ist fantastische, ja!? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Tangerine Dream albums with Johannes Schmoelling ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - March 03 2024 at 04:21 |

No, not even close. The only way I'd exceed 36 pages for one artist is if I listed all of movie music maestro Ennio Morricone's 500+ soundtracks, which is far in excess of Tangerine Dream's 192 albums (to date). ![]() Coming up next..... Johannes Schmoelling's solo albums.

Tangerine Dream Team: Passed and Presence
KLAUS KRUEGER Tangerine Dream's first dedicated drummer who builds his own drum kits, Klaus Krueger appeared on two late-1970's Tangerine Dream albums, which is twice as many albums as the aforementioned Klaus Schulze, Conrad Schnitzler, Steve Schroyder and Steve Jolliffe, or Michael Hoenig, whose time with Tangerine Dream was briefer than the shelf-life of a supermarket lettuce - or British prime minister Liz Truss. ![]() ![]() Tangerine Dream albums with Klaus Krueger ![]() ![]() ![]() Lettuce pray for ex-British PM Liz Truss.

Tangerine Dream Team: Passed and Presence
STEVE JOLLIFFE The first voice ever heard on a Tangerine Dream album! Once we'd all recovered from the shock of hearing Steve Jolliffe's robotic vocals for the first time on Tangerine Dream's revolutionary Cyclone album in 1978, it's now rightly-regarded as a classic and has since become Tangerine Dream's sixth best-selling album of all time. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - February 27 2024 at 03:07 |

MICHAEL HOENIG The briefest blink-and-you'll miss-him member of Tangerine Dream, Michael Hoenig stood in for Peter Baumann during the Australian leg of Tangerine Dream's 1975 world tour. Michael Hoenig's stunning solo debut - Departure from the Northern Wasteland - is one of the best albums Tangerine Dream never recorded. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - February 13 2024 at 12:01 |

PETER BAUMANN The third member of the classic TD trio (alongside Edgar Froese & Chris Franke), Peter Baumann appeared on all of Tangerine Dream's early albums from Zeit in 1972 through to the live Encore album in 1977 before departing the band to concentrate on his budding solo career, including a thankfully brief but bizarre spell in the early 1980's as a German version of Gary Numan with his unforgettable (but not in a good way) New Wave cover version of Frank Sinatra's Strangers in the Night. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Tangerine Dream albums with Peter Baumann ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - February 11 2024 at 04:14 |

CHRIS FRANKE The second of the classic TD trio (alongside Edgar Froese & Peter Baumann), Chris Franke has been with Tangerine Dream almost from the beginning, appearing on well over fifty Tangerine Dream albums, from their second album: Alpha Centauri in 1971, right through to LiveMiles in 1988. Chris Franke moved to the Pacific Coast Highway of California in 1991, presumably because that's where the big money is, scoring music for movies and TV shows, including over fifty soundtracks alone for sci-fi series Babylon 5 (which are far too numerous to list here). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Tangerine Dream albums with Chris Franke ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - February 10 2024 at 13:21 |

Can I also mention Seven Letters From Tibet and Purgatorio? The latter may be my favourite TD album but should warn that it's not typical for TD featuring several classical opera singers from different countries.

Hi, And some of the best is finally showing up ... the live stuff in the evenings for the past 2 or 3 years is all excellent, and their guests in them are also great. Steve Reich and Nick Beggs and a couple of others are excellent, and showing something that has not been there feeling wise, since the Edgar Froese days ... a certain "freedom" instead of the music being too metallic for my tastes. It flows a lot better being improvised as these shows tell us ... and they need to be on CD.
|
|||
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

STEVE SCHROYDER One of the early, almost forgotten members of Tangerine Dream, Steve Schroyder has a small but important place in Tangerine Dream's history as one of the original TD trio (alongside Edgar Froese & Chris Franke) on Tangerine Dream's second album: Alpha Centauri. Steve Schroyder's star shone brightly as a solo artist too, recording three albums of "Kosmiche Musik" before trance-forming into a four-on-the floor dancehall star. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

There are a few more tracks exclusive to Edgar's Ambient Highway series, too. |
