Cairo (UK)
Cairo (USA) - there are many towns in the US named Cairo, but the pyramid on their debut implied they mean the one in Egypt
Callisto (Finland) - Callisto is one of Jupiter's moons or a nymph in Greek mythology
Japanski Premijeri (Croatia)
Vienna (Japan)
Easter Island (USA)

Because of the tar sands, maybe?Wink

You remind me of the Québécois band Ungava... they were from Montréal.
Same province, though.

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

Plaistow were from Switzerland, although I'm not 100% sure whether their name has other reasons than the existence of a London suburb of that name. (In fact many examples could exist of band names for which one can find a small place somewhere, but let's say in this case I'd give it a subjective probability of around 50% that they called themselves after that place.)

There was a glam/hair metal band called London, but they were from the USA.   They wernt one of the more famous glam/hair metal bands, but they did appear in an 80s documentry called The Decline of Western Civilisation: The Metal Years

I tried looking up the rock band Presidents Of The United States Of America, but they cant count as they are from the USA.

How could i have not thought of Trans Siberian Orchestra, considering i have 4 of their albums on CD and one of them on vinyl.   I didnt realise Portishead was a location.   Its nice that a fair amount of others have replied. I was actually afraid that this thread idea might not have atracted genuine interest.

America (consisted of US nationals but was founded in the UK)
Frankie Goes To Hollywood (UK)
Big In Japan (UK)
French TV (USA)
Kensington (Netherlands)

Perhaps relevant in a broader sense: "Satanique Samba Trio" is a quintet which doesn't play samba and isn't particularly satanic either.
