On a positive note, five of my seven picks are in the Top 23. Only The Tangent and Magenta are missing.

I wish Lazland & GeekFreak were here to give Mostly Autumn a much-needed boost in the listings.

I remembered someone voted for Motorpsycho earlier, then I realised it was you.

I also missed putting Phideaux on the list but I am really surprised no one mentioned Motorpsycho who have a large discography and some excellent albums. They have several 4 star lp's .

Hmm I somehow missed Phideaux. I don't know whom to remove from my top 7 to bring them in though

I've seen votes for Phideaux, The Pineapple Thief, The Tangent, Ozric Tentacles and Riverside, but none of them have enough points to make it into the listings. At least, not yet. It was looking like I'd be the only one to vote for Mostly Autumn, but thankfully, AlanB voted for them too, so they finally made it into the Top 20, just.

It looks like I was the only person to vote for Echolyn. I guess they are largely forgotten these days but that's what happens when your last album is from six years ago. Good thing I didn't list Djam Karet or Mastermind.;) It looks like Ozric Tentacles didn't make the list either. I also don't think anyone voted for Phideux. I'm surprised Gazpacho, the Pineapple Thief, Anathema, Iamthemorning, The Tangent, Glass Hammer and Riverside didn't make the list either.
Also, someone earlier voted for Kaipa. I guess they didn't realize that their first album was released in the 70's. Edited by AFlowerKingCrimson - December 22 2021 at 11:13 |

I did mention twice in the intro that this poll was for *bands only*, but not everyone reads the intro.

1. Porcupine Tree (112 points) 2. Marillion (100 points) 3. IQ (83 points) 4. Spock's Beard (59 points) 5. Transatlantic (49 points) 6. Big Big Train (46 points) 7. Cardiacs (44 points) 8. Neal Morse Band (35 points)* 9. Present (30 points) 9. Guapo (30 points) 11. Dream Theater (29 points) 12. Wobbler (26 points) 12. Talk Talk (26 points) 14. The Flower Kings (23 points) 15. Opeth (20 points) 15. Pendragon (20 points) 17. Thinking Plague (19 points) 18. Solstice (18 points) 18. Mostly Autumn (18 points) 20. Anglagard (17 points) 21. Swans (16 points) 22. Anekdoten (15 points) 23. Pallas (14 points) *By the way, I've counted any previous votes for Neal Morse (solo) as votes for the Neal Morse Band, giving them a new entry straight in at #8. It's good to see another vote for Mostly Autumn, finally putting them in the chart.

Sorry, didn't catch that. But it might be good to put more emphasis on 'no individual artists' -- after all, artists like SW have bands that their working with, often including the same members on multiple albums.

Well, fair 'nuff, I was just looking at 80's albums near the top. Doesn't matter too much to me if Eskaton and Art Zoyd are "modern" or not, the larger point is just that there are a lot of high-rated bands not being mentioned in peoples' lists here!

I'm glad you mentioned Steven Wilson. I haven't counted any votes for SW in the polling as he's not a band, and it didn't seem right to convert a vote for Steven Wilson into an automatic vote for Porcupine Tree.
