Just found out about this—absolutely devastated at the moment. He was an incredible vocalist, flautist, and all around a wonderful person. Absolutely one of the greatest modern prog musicians—it's hard to believe he's gone.

The most tragic and shocking news about a prog musician I have read in years. One of today's greatest vocalists. RIP.

I am lost for words - unable to take in this awful news. David transformed a band I already loved into something of extraordinary depth and beauty. To say he will be sorely missed is an understatement of gigantic proportions.

Very sad to hear this. He helped turn Big Big Train into one of the most fascinating recent prog bands, and one wishes that together they would have gone from strength to strength...

Absolutely devastated by David’s unexpected and premature death. So upset - it’s left a huge void for me tonight. What a voice and what a lovely man he was. 😥

A real shock. I am so saddened by this, far too young and talented to go so soon. His voice and talent gave me great joy.
