I have so much of his stuff I need to go back and check out. As I said earlier, always took for granted I'd get around to listening to him "someday".....there are many artists I have in that category. For whatever reason I haven't just haven't gotten to it. So much music, so little time...

Ohh yea forgot about the SNL show, I watched that also and really enjoyed the performances, Fury is a great song off 3121. I really enjoy his more hard rock/psychedelic stuff he was doing a la Hendrix style......I'm an R&B guy too so all that stuff resonates with me also.

^Cool photo!!!
I hear you Jose. We watched the SNL tribute on Saturday and were amazed yet again by the performances. I can't speak much about his albums but as a live performer he was as good as anyone. This one is from an excellent photo shoot by Robert Whitman, in Minneapolis 1977. These were photos for him to send to record companies. |

^ There was video of him riding the bike in a shopping center parking lot, I assume the same day......
This was done in New Orleans by a sky-writer over Jazzfest this weekend...... Spent the weekend listening to Prince records and last night watching MTV-Prince videos and then Purple Rain movie......The wife and I are just like we can't believe he is gone, last night was not fun.

Paisley Park's Instagram sent out this photo of Prince. One of the last images taken of him, just taking a bike ride last week at his studio. I like it a lot.

Great pics!! When we saw him in 2006, wife and I dressed in purple, of course, like most fans did at his shows. I wish we had taken a picture before showtime as a couple.....I still have the purple shirt.

I had only little liking for his music, if any. Yet I found it, even in this disastrous year, shocking to hear about his death. A gifted musician in the field of eclectic non-prog. Too young. RIP anyway.

Thanks Jose.
Another cool image was the large rainbow that occurred over Paisley Park last night as fans gathered. And the I35 Bridge last night into Mpls... |

@Finnforest........Keep those pics coming!! Really enjoying seeing that. My wife and I stayed up pretty late watching CNN last night.
Also watched some MTV lastnight they cancelled all normal schedule and were showing Prince videos and went back to being "MTV" of the 80's.....That was so cool and sad to see the videos. The impact of losing him will be felt for so long, there is a hole in truly creative music now. Last week during Record Store Day sales I ordered a new copy of Purple Rain on vinyl (of course), should have it Monday......That will be a sad package to open

Read this last night...Wilson was a gigantic Prince fan, I love that about him. I played his cover of Sign O Times last night from Cover Version album, just a simple great version by Steven.

One more. I remember when Purple Rain was in local theaters. The crowds were like a club scene, packed and rocking. Quite the night last night. Packed streets and music all night long in Mpls. The whole city is lit up purple, never seen or felt anything like it. He owned this town and treated fans like family. Onward we go...

CORRECTION: Prince's epic guitar performance on "WHile my Guitar Gently Weeps" was for George Harrison's post-mortem induction into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

(I hope he doesn't mind but) Steven Wilson posted this to facebook last night:
Just 30 minutes before we went on stage in Vienna tonight I heard thatPrince had died, I couldn't believe it. It was a very tough show for me to play. The word "genius" is used a bit too often and loosely within the music world, but I think Prince was the real thing, perhaps the most naturally gifted performer of all time. I saw him play live several times, and his show at The O2 Arena in London in 2007 I would rate as the greatest concert I ever saw (Craig Blundell is agreeing with me now, he was there too). The run of albums from Dirty Mind in 1980 through to Sign 'O' the Times in 1987 matches anyone in its sustained brilliance, and it was such a big part of my soundtrack as a teenager (some of you will know that The Ballad of Dorothy Parker from the latter album was on the mixtape made by my character in Hand.Cannot.Erase., which is pretty much what my mixtape would have been at that time in my life). Tonight I made a humble attempt to sing his song Sign 'O' the Times, in fact just before we played David Bowie's Space Oddity. It's been a while since I recorded my version so I couldn't remember it very well, but I wanted to at least try it, it would have seemed strange to pay tribute to one unique musical genius and not the other. Farewell strange purple one, and thanks for it all. |

^ My sister showed me this - Prince was mind-blowing. He was almost like the Zappa of the RnB, soul, funk and Pop world.............I never actually went for the guy, but he was bleedin' talented. Another MASSIVE loss to the music/entertainment world.
