LOL Actually, so did I... Not many people stick with the same avatar, but when they do, it's hard to separate the two.

The classics were four relatively easy decisions for me, with Yeti >>>>>>> UZ rounding it out. Rotters/Ys is the closest but Rotters is probably a top 5 album for me now and Ys isn't quite that (Palepoli on the other hand... that would be tight).

The really interesting stuff this week is going to be listening through all the moderns since the field's been thinned enough I have the time to do it.

This is the poll that never ends
Yes, it goes on and on, my friends.
Micky started it so Italians finally win,
Twenty years later, and the selection's mighty thin.
Cos' this is the poll that never ends....

...a vigorous circular motion hitherto unknown to the people of this area, but destined
to take the place of the mud shark in your mythology...

normally I like to wait on finishing the tiebreakers before starting the next series of polls but I guess the lack of inertia to get to 10 votes will in effect be a penalty and a late start.

Starting with the moderns.  Excuse the lack of creativity.. I sort of ran out of ideas on how to present these last series of polls. Samples we did.. everyone should know the album.. or how and where to find them to listen to them and pretty much beat the album review notion into the ground. I suppose at this point.. they should need no introduction.

^ if I was to put money/odd on the results.. I'd almost see those the exact same way.

If Hatchett makes it through.. I could see it beating Rock Bottom/Yeti. No ONE thought UZ had those those kinds of votes. I know I saw that poll as one that would be 'over' in the first day.

Ouch That would've been a perfect final of the classics for me.

If YS wasn't in my top 10 albums of alltime.. not just prog albums.. that would have been a murderous vote.  Heart

I do think YS can win.. don't think it will. TRC is simply a divine album and a 1000 times more accessible (and englishWink) than YS.

the two that I really will be interested in. and could be absolue nail biters are the Octopus v. Storia di Minuto and In Absentia v. Spirit of Eden battles

Ommadawn > Aja
Pawn Hearts < Palepoli
Rotters > Birds of Fire
YS > HR
UZ =/= Hackett
Yeti < Wyatt
GG > Scheh
Storia > Supertramp

I have very few opinions in the moderns. Koenji have released two of my favourite albums ever but I think the one representing them is not as strong as Nivraym or Angherr Shisspa.

I've got two don't-need-to-listen choices on the classics because I think Hot Rats has the emotional density of a fart and that the PFM album, while occasionally so light on the touch, lyrics and vocals that it's barely there, steamrolls anything other than the title track off Crime of the Century. La Carozza di Hans being a highlight. The rest are all subject to a listen.

Alrighty!!  After a nice break...  the battle of the albums contest resumes!  Today the 4th round kicks off, for both classic and modern.  With the holiday weekend next weekend .. we'll let these polls run for two weeks. All the better to get the maximum votes since the 4th round is where things really get serious as the creme of the albums have started to rise to the top.

so on that note.. .let the 4th round begin!

last tiebreak vote just came in.. by a split 2-1 decision. Perils moves on to the 4th round.  Shame there had to be a loser in that one.

Updated bracket...

Ommadawn > Aja, really don't get Aja
Pawn Hearts > Palepoli, PH is probably the favorite in this field
Rotters > MO, top 10 all-time album
YS - HR, need to listen to both
UZ > Hackett, though I expect to lose heavily
Yeti > Wyatt, this should be tight
GG > Scheh... , much much prefer the GG album
Storia > Supertramp - much prefer the Italians here, though COTC was one of the main albums of my youth

Koenji > Hybris - yes I know I'll lose but its a better album to these ears
Guapo > UTotem - love both, glad to have a great Avant album in the Qtrs, 5 Suns all the way baby!!
Vemod > Sleeping, meh, I guess a Crimson clone (at least this album) is better than ennui
GBS > Maudlin - wanted Radiohead in here but GBS is good enough for me
Disciplne - TMV - both ok albums, coin toss, no idea yet
Jean Louis > whoever - this is the darkest of dark horses in this field
Ozrics > PT - lets get ssppaaacceeeyyy!!!
TT > Shaming - though hardly excited by either
