Quote The neighboring solar system is complaining about the smell.

This is probably the boldest hot take I've ever seen on this forum!

Cristi, if you think GFTO is a messy album then what do you think of Tormato? Even messier? ;)

Let's see...

More is one of my favorite Pink Floyd albums.
Awake is my favorite Dream Theater album.
Genesis - ATTW3 is a great album, a favorite of mine.
Going for the One is an overrated mess of an album.
I enjoy Fates Warning more than Dream Theater these days.
David Gilmour's second album About Face is underappreciated, deserves better.

'Clone bands' is not a thing
Alternative music is not prog
King Crimson didn't invent prog rock

No, King Crimson didn't invent prog because no one band or artist did.
It's only a clone band if a band sets out to try to sound as much as a band as possible. I think Unifaun might be the only band who qualifies in that regard (as a Genesis clone although I never actually heard them).
What was the best decade for TD then? The 80s?
I won't comment on the others.

Re TD I would say the 80's (up to 1986) but then there are some great albums released in the 00's as well.

We agree re KC then!

Perhaps. Maybe I'm biased but I think the spelling of "Van der Graaf Generator" is more appealing than the correct spelling "Van de Graaff Generator".

Adapting the name is more dynamic than static. It's quite electrifying either way.

Incidentally, and apologies for any silliness, were tennis player Steffi Graf to guest with Van der Graaf Generator, they could call that project Steffi Graaf Generator. I think the album title could reference one of my favourite VdGG tunes "White Hammer" by calling itself The White Slammer.

For a comment more appropriate to the spirit I see in this thread: I think that Bubu's Anabalas is a much more accomplished and satisfying three track album than Yes' Close to the Edge.   In fact, although I like title track very much, I'm not that keen on the album Close to the Edge and would give it three stars.

What's wrong with Sheep?! Confused
Pigs is my least favorite of the three, and Sheep is superb.

Just a bit of a drab in my opinion, lacks that energy of the other two. It has energy, but not that same energy

Strange you say that because Sheep is more energetic than Pigs. Confused

For me, Pigs perfectly encapsulates the feel of the album and has a killer guitar solo (which is a bonus)

Close to it. As much as I like it there are no long instrumental sections, no long songs, no complexity and not much in the way of time changes (except on three x time). If those things I mentioned don't matter then I would say maybe DOFP is.

H.R. Giger's Brain Salad Surgery album cover is a self portrait.
Thank you for supporting independently produced music

I don't see it how it's "extremely overrated". I don't think it's even overrated. LOL

Giger Lenz Marron are the best jazz rock group from the 70s.

Genesis album Trespass is their greatest work; even better than what came after it by the band.

Former Dzyan and GLM guitarist the late Eddy Marron was enormously under-rated, and did not get the acclaim he deserved.

Eloy's best album was Inside.

^It seems so, either way, it's fun to see what others think about something you may like
