The penalty tracks are on disc 2, they go from the first track until King Kong. If the penalty tracks were not there, the entire album would fit on one disc.

I don't have any of them, but I would be curious to hear MOFO and GLS for the original vinyl mixes. Lumpy Money sounds more interesting to me, what with all the different versions of WOIIFTM, and the Capitol version of Lumpy Gravy.
They're are both identical, and both have the 'penalty' tracks. However, the recent UMe release is most likely cheaper as the Ryko's are out of print now. I'm really excited, actually, for this new Project/Object release. I'd love to hear the original vinyl mix for Uncle Meat, WITHOUT the penalty tracks. Edited by darkshade - April 16 2013 at 10:51 |

I don't know Uncle Meat yet. Which version do you recommend : the Ryko or the last one ? Are they different ?

The project/objects don't really appeal to me, but Uncle Meat might be interesting

Is that a Sears t-shirt, or is that a real t-shirt?

Looks like Uncle Meat will be the next Project/Object, similar to MOFO, Lumpy Money, and Greasy Love Songs.

Actually I wasn't opposed to nor surprised by how high JG was on the list, I believe that it's a popular album, I just don't share the opinion of the many.
Anyway, it's Zappa. Of course it's good. . I tend to nitpick my favorites sometimes.

Admittedly, I didn't fancy Joe's Garage as an album when I was originallly getting into Zappa, but over the years, it has grown on me (same deal with Shiek Yer Bouti) to the point where I think it's one of his best albums, though maybe not as high as it is. I'm actually a little surprised at the negative reaction of JG being so high on the list (note: it is an accumulated amount of ratings, from both original LP releases, and the 2 CD release of all 3 acts.)

Agreed.
Also, Arthur and Vinnie made for an interesting rhythm section. |

I like it for two reasons.
1) Musically it's pretty excellent most of the time 2) I like that type of humor. |

I never understood the popularity of Joe's Garage. It has some good songs, but a lot of filler.
And the story itself is kind of lame. Okay for an occasional listen, but nowhere near one of Frank's best.

Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

In terms of popularity that seems fairly correct. JG is probably the biggest surprise for me just because it gets lumped in with the offensive stuff. AF is also not something I'd suspect, though it is low on the list. |

By popularity you just mean number of ratings, and not what ratings were actually given, correct?

Had nothing to do for 20 minutes, so I decided to rank the top 11 Frank Zappa albums according to their popularity here at PA. How do you feel about this list? Do you agree with it?
Album Amount of ratings Hot Rats - 817 Joe's Garage Act I, II, and III - 521 (accumulated) The Grand Wazoo - 438 One Size Fits All - 405 Apostrophe (') - 356 We're Only In It For The Money - 356 Freak Out! - 339 Over-nite Sensation - 317 Uncle Meat - 272 Absolutely Free - 268 Shiek Yer Bouti - 264 |
