So here are the FZ albums I'm still missing. Part of me wants to get CPIII next, but another part of me is saying to get other albums first. What do you think?
56. Civilization Phaze III 59. Frank Zappa Plays the Music of Frank Zappa 63. Everything Is Healing Nicely 64. FZ:OZ 66. Joe's XMASage 67. Joe's Domage 68. MOFO 74. Joe's Menage 75. Philly '76 76. Lumpy Money 77. Hammersmith Odeon 78. Greasy Love Songs 80. Carnegie Hall
My personal recommendation is to get CP III next, no question about it. Though admittedly I haven't heard about half of those on the list. But they all offer variations on music you pretty much already know. CP III is entirely its own beast, and it's one of his best works IMO.
I forgot to mention 200 Motels, but I fear the second I order a $40 used copy on Amazon, the ZFT will announce the UMe reissue of it...
I was kind of thinking that too as far as CPIII goes. I'm thinking I'll order it with Frank Zappa Plays the Music of Frank Zappa and Everything Is Healing Nicely to save on shipping costs. I know EIHN has new material on it too.
Speaking of which, I also just ordered Greggary Peccary & Other Persuasions: Ensemble Modern on Amazon.

I am also interested in the Lumpy Gravy instrumental. How about that 25 minute song on the third disc? The project/object albums in general are probably going to be bought last as they're very expensive.

As much as Evolver's review is good, he only gave it three stars. I'd be inclined to give it 4 myself. One day I'll have to review this album. There's a lot of new stuff on it.

one of the best, you say? I definitely need to look into this.
If you enjoy the original Mothers of course, as I have been these last few months. I think it's better than related albums like YCDTOSA vol. 5 (disc 1), Ahead Of Their Time, Finer Moments, and Mystery Disc. Don't really want to compare it to any of the original studio/live albums from the 60s/early 70s, as they're a different beast, but it's just as good as BWS/WRMF.
I'm gonna have to listen to Road Tapes again myself tonight. I hope future installments are just as good (and cover lineups with little to no official release, like the 73 band with Jean-Luc Ponty for example).

Road Tapes Venue 1 is pretty awesome.
That does look pretty good. I have some catching up to do!
Btw, I'm listening to this now and am being impressed by its accurate rendering of the Zappa style - and it's by Weird Al Yankovic to boot! If you haven't heard this, prepare yourself for:

I probably said this already, get The Real Frank Zappa Book. It's a great read. :)
I ordered a cheap $1 paperback copy from Amazon, got it a few days ago, and actually started reading today and finished the first chapter already. I have a feeling I'm going to breeze right through the book.

I wonder if it's worth it to buy the 200 Motels album for about $40 on Amazon, or wait until it (hopefully) gets reissued on UMe like the rest...... Aside from CPIII, it's the only Zappa album from the main catalog that I'm missing.

Seriously, when you put all the FZ tracks from the first four AAAFNRAA Birthday Bundles together, you get a little more than two hours of fresh, new Frank. Probably the closest to YCDTOSA Vol.7 that you can get. I re-ordered them, as they don't have any real position on those "albums" anyway. I think I made a good order of them.

I also got Road Tapes, Venue #1, and I'm downloading some of the AAAFNRAA birthday bundle (pretty much just the Frank stuff, it's like they're like mini-YCDTOSA albums.)
