he's not prog-electronic? I like some of his music, dislike some of it. But crossover, I don't think so.

I wouldn't mind (better than Prog Related), but Vangelis also plays drums, bass, piano, organ, you name it. He's not just electronic.

Vangelis in crossover? Why? Progressive electronic is not right for that?

Drum tracks, like any other, are almost always precomposed in rock music. The intricacies in Neil's playing is always missed by non-fans. Their arrangements have always been several notches above. Rush isn't a jazz/fusion band or a jam band where improv is integral to the formula. They're a rock band first, and they always have been. |

Yep and the likes of Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Wishbone Ash, Uriah Heap, Groundhogs, Chicken Shack, Family, etc etc would be under the 'progressive' umbrella term.

'Progressive Rock' is the term I remember being used in the first half of the seventies, but it was broader in its compass than what we now call 'prog', as it seemed to be used to describe anything that was quality, intelligent rock music, as opposed to all the glam / soul / pop that was prevalent at the time.

I don't remember the term "prog" being used at all in the 1970's! Then again, my recollection of that time period is a bit, shall we say, "clouded?"

If it was decided to jettison the 'non-prog' albums by a particular artist, and Genesis as referenced here are an excellent example... can you imagine the arguments we'd have on here about which of their albums are actually prog, as opposed to whether an artist is considered to be proggy enough to be worthy of inclusion on this site?

I didn't get into Rush until 2112 and Kings...never bought or listened to the first 3....never thought of them as prog rock though certainly not straight ahead hard rock either....under 'heavy prog' here but could even be crossover as well imo.
