Systematic Chaos was ok. At least it wasn't their typical cluttered nonsense.

This cover is just silliness to me. Of course i'll still give the album a look at once it's released.

Meh. At least it's not insanely stupid like their previous one two three.

New stuff:

Dream Theater
’s self-titled album – the band’s 12th studio release overall, and fourth with Roadrunner Records – will be released September 24, and now you can check out the cover art and see the track listing below!

Says guitarist John Petrucci about Dream Theater, “I see every new album as an opportunity to start over. To either build or improve upon a direction that has been evolving over time or to completely break new ground. This is the first self-titled album of our career and there is nothing I can think of that makes a statement of musical and creative identity stronger than that. We’ve fully explored all of the elements that make us unique, from the epic and intense to the atmospheric and cinematic. We’re incredibly excited about Dream Theater and can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”

The nine-track disc was recorded at Cove City Studio in Glen Cove, Long Island, with guitarist Petrucci producing and Richard Chycki engineering and mixing. It’s the band’s second album with drummer Mike Mangini, and the first one on which he was a part of the writing process from Day One.

In January, Petrucci said of Mangini’s work, “When people hear the drumming on this album, they’re gonna be pretty freaked out. On the last album, he did a great job, but he wasn’t there for the writing process and he was interpreting drum parts that I had programmed. Even though he used his creativity, of course, to change them up and do his thing, I feel like now he’s just Mike Mangini unleashed. It’s all him. It’s all his creativity, all his decisions and ideas and man, the guy’s an animal.”

The track listing for Dream Theater is as follows:

1. FALSE AWAKENING SUITE
i. Sleep Paralysis
ii. Night Terrors
iii. Lucid Dream

2. THE ENEMY INSIDE

3. THE LOOKING GLASS

4. ENIGMA MACHINE

5. THE BIGGER PICTURE

6. BEHIND THE VEIL

7. SURRENDER TO REASON

8. ALONG FOR THE RIDE

9. ILLUMINATION THEORY
i. Paradoxe de la Lumière Noire
ii. Live, Die, Kill
iii. The Embracing Circle
iv. The Pursuit of Truth
v. Surrender, Trust & Passion

Dream Theater will be available in a wide range of distinctive versions, including standard and special edition CDs, 180 gram double LP, and a limited edition boxed set. Pre-orders are scheduled to launch in July at the Roadrunner Records Webstore.

Dream Theater will be on tour in Europe in January and February 2014, and in North America in March 2014.

------------------------------------

I'm really excited now. That is their first tasteful album cover since Train of Thought, even if it is a bit boring. 75% sure that either the phrases "Dream Theater or "Theater of Dreams" will appear in the opening suite. LOL

I really like those guys they are very talented players that together create some of the best music around.
But lets be more accurate.

The Good:
They combine Heavy Metal and Progrressive Rock almost perfect it sound so good together.
They have a unique touch in thier sound that makes us know when we are listening to one of thier albums.
They have some of the genres best instrumental tracks and one of the greatset concept albums in music history.
Their live performences are great and energy fluding.
The Bad:
Heavy Metal can block some creative ideas that classic prog isnt afraid to use.
After thier album Six Degrees....; Some of thier albums are designed as "The great songs side" and "the bad songs side"
The Ugly:
Most prog metal bands are compared to them and it makes for bad reviews for very talented prog metal bands.
Some reviewers coin them as the genres godfathers which makes us forget about prog metal or proto prog metal bands that came before them.

Yeah I would love some great lyrics akin to their Awake album. Some of their best lyrics are on on that album.

Portnoy's lyrics were always touch and go, so maybe that explains the imprvement on ADToE.

"Remember days of yesterdays"-Mike Portnoy

Yeah, actually most of the lyrics on "Black Clouds and Silver Linings" were rather lame.

But in ADToE they work better on the lyrics department. I'm sure the next album will be at that level.

Yeah, the lyrics were better on ADTOE, but they weren't perfect. There are parts from that album which have sub-par lyrics. I hope they improve on DT12

Maybe because fag is another word for cigarette in England

But here in America, I can say w**k, or w**ky, or w**ker, with no problem, but over there it's derogatory.

But yea, Kevin Moore is an ass.

Yeah I say w**ker all the time and b****cks too. Most people don't have a clue ha ha. But anyway its a shame because Kevin was a creative genuis

Is there bad blood between KM and DT?  From what I know, he just left because he wasn't comfortable with DT's musical direction and wanted to focus on his own music.

I've always wondered why Kevin refuses to have anything to do with DT. He refused to participate in the When Dream & Day Unite show, and also refused to be in Lifting Shadows. You're right when you state the reasons for why he left, and I can understand that he left Dream Theater not wanting to come back, but the fact that he's so extreme about it is odd.

But I agree, that comment was rude and inappropriate.
