You have heard Comus' second, Alex?
It features a certain member of Henry Cow.
So no, not everything members of HC do is fantastic.

I haven't heard the 2nd... because I've been afraid to. I plan on listening to both albums this weekend though.

Oh, Alex, I ordered Comus's second yesterday. |
Can't say I'm overly impressed by First Utterance. It's raw, emotionally challenging and unique in its own way...but where is the depth?
|
I absolutely love that album; I think there's plenty of depth.
Not quite sure if it's to your taste though.
|
Perhaps. But I'd like to know why it isn't to my taste.
|
Because it's brilliant.
Actually, maybe you don't like the subject matter and/or John Milton? Perhaps it's the vocal style.
It is full of depth. It Drip Drip's full of depth actually.
Plus there is no other album like it. Not even Jan Dukes De Grey.
|
I just think they're trying too hard without never really getting anywhere which resembles "brilliant". A little like VdGG . But yes, as usual it boils down to taste. I'm sorry Alex, didn't mean to be confrontational. I just interpreted your answer as if they had something specific I just couldn't get into, which spurred my interest. It's quite the contrary actually, since I feel they lack something that would make get into it. A typical 3 star album
|
Oh, no, I didn't take it as confrontational. It's fine.

...and I guess that's what bothers me then It usually works great for me through lyrics, but rarely musically.

Oh and forgot to mention that the phrase "tell me about it" annoys me quite a bit.

That's been happening to me a lot lately. It gets annoying after so long.

Yeah, tell me about it It should happen when I don't use the computer, that would be nicer.

No.
Henry Cow pwns Koenjihyakkei. Easily.

Maybe. Maybe not. It's all subjective. Angherr Shisspa is in my top 3 albums of the millenium, though. Stockholm & Goteborg is fantastic though but it's archival material.
