I agree. Wonder how the music sounds. I think I will check it out..

OK, I came back into this thread because I'd like to know why I can't post topics in other forums, like the prog lounge. Any mod want to tell me what I need to do to be able get around this error message I get (you do not have permission to post topics...etc)?  I also want to plug a band out here in Seattle that I recommended a long time ago under a different username. 

The musician is Shawn Farley and his band is Half Zaftig. He mixes humor, Zappa like craziness, lush vocals, intelligent acoustic guitar work, liberal amounts of metal and excellent songwriting together into a mix that is unique and one that to my ears is prog enough to warrant inclusion in this website. 

On his website (http://www.shawnfarley.com) you can listen at your leisure to four volumes of work. Vol 1 seems to have much of his best material. Check out "Help is on the way", "The last time we talked" (simply gorgeous), Gratitute (an ode to a daughter) and "things look bleak". Other songs to try are Sad (vol 3) and "color me corrected" (vol 2).

Spotify has the Half Zaftik album "Life like Luster". Check out "Sublimeinal", "Our Guarantee"  "Fair use", "inscrutable You".

Shawn also played on Andrew Gorczyca's album "Reflections" which was reviewed by the www.therecordlabel.net. Shawn was listed there as a "top-tier artist" along with the others that appeared on that album.

I see where you have a formal process for recommending new bands now. I will look into that....

It also looks like someone submitted him as an artist over at progfreak...

I am personally not fond of many if any female vocalists in prog bands, if I would suggest anyone it's Magenta coz she's hot Big smile

Since you were talking about multiple vocalists, male and female, the first one that came to mind for me was Glass Hammer.

My favorite female vox band is Epica, but they are quite metal and I'm guessing that's not what you're going for.

Thanks for the quick reply, guys..

Already, I've got Mostly Autumn up and I like it. it also reminded me of "After Crying" which has a female vocalist that no one mentioned yet. Its not on that list posted anyway. 

I'm off to do some listening, then I hope to be back because I want to explore this some more...

Female fronted prog bands that you might want to checkout include Mostly Autumn, Panic Room, Karnataka, and The Reasoning.  A prog-related band that I enjoy is The Wishing Tree, which includes Steve Rothery from Marillion.
You may also enjoy a band like Phideaux, who uses a number of vocalists, both male and female.

HI fellow proggers -

I'm re-registered with a new username after joining up a few years back. 

I'm 58 and was born in 1954. All the classic prog came out when I was in college. I don't know how I ever managed to find time to study with all of that great music around :)

OK, I was going to post a question in the prog lounge, but I was given an error saying I could not create a new topic. Can someone help me out?

I was going to ask members why they think that there is such a paucity of female vocalists in prog. A discussion on this would really interest me. If I were to ever form a prog band (not very likely now at my age :), I would want 3-4 vocalists including at east one female. And so I'd also like recommendations from anyone about prog bands (classic or symphonic) with female vocalists. National Health and IZZ come to mind. Not much else, but I'm not acquainted with prog past 1980...(yes, I am that old :)).

I'd like to be able to post this question in the discussion forum.

I'll never forget the night I was formally introduced to prog in 1973 by a guy down the hall in my dorm. I knew about Yes and ELP at the time as they had songs on the charts, but his reverent whispers told me that he had something even more special in mind. So I followed him into his dorm room and found me a comfortable chair. He cued up the music and then sat back and smiled, convinced it would blow my socks off. It did. The song?  "The Fountain of Salmacis" by Genesis. 

From that point on, my life changed forever....:)
