Turbo-folk, Traditional and neo-traditional music of Serbia (where I live). I just can't stand it and to make it worse, tons of people around me play them regularly.

Gabberhouse and other non-melodic forms of dance music. Some melodic forms are horrible too IMHO.

Probably Christian metal, especially Christian death metal. I mean seriously, a slamming Tourniquet concert in a basement club with a keg of O'Douls - who's kidding who?

- Dark Electro-Goth or Electro-Industrial, especially from Germany. I don't know what happened in this country after Das Ich and Wumpscut, but I can't stand Funker Vogt. I will try to bear Hocico, Cenobita and other bands from Mexico, but I'm not sure I would enjoy them (special points for And One, the goofiest electro-pop band I ever heard).
- this "Makina" thing from Spain. Spain, be serious: only export Haemorrage or Luz Casal, not this crap. I never cared for hardcore techno, but Makina is beyond my tolerance.
- College Rock as heard in TV shows. Do American students really listen to this musical equivalent of tedious water? I could add punk-pop/pop-punk à la Sum 41 or Green Day, for it has the same flavour to my palate.
- Chanson Française / Variété Française (French varieties): I can't stand Jacques Brel, Serge Gainsbourg, Léo Ferré, Edith Piaf... And I DEEPLY hate the music of Jean-Jacques Goldman, Pascal Obispo, Michel Sardou...

I can like a lot of music, but I've never been terribly fond of rap, country, or baroque classical.

The vocal on modern pop, especially female, are to often electronically pitched in the most obvious way, sounds like Micky Mouse Cher did it first, that was inventive and fun, but now it's a plague. Making it worse is the fact that the Lyrics often repeats it self into a brainwash, trying to make the listener remember the song faster. Just like a commercial. Under my Umbrella umbrella umbrella........under my umbrella umbrella umbrella umbrella umbrella umbrella umbrella umbr umb um uuuuuu

not really a genre but that commercial trade music you hear over bad commercials or piped-in at malls, like heavily watered Wes Montgomery jazz

If it's because of the fanbase, then you don't hate the music.

I love a lot of music and loath even more, but its not so much genre based.

Americana
For Uncut Magazine's Free CD of the month for the last 10 years or so, Americana seems to be disproportionally represented either within most CDs or a there is a complete CD of the genre.

Hip hop, country, grunge and modern pop music (by modern, I mean everything after the 80's). Runners up include techno, industrial, hardcore punk (although lighter stuff like the Ramones and the Clash are cool), death metal.
My favorite non-prog genres are 70's classic rock (not sure of any genre name to give that), new wave/post punk, folk rock, psychedelic, hard rock and jazz.

You say that like thrash and hair metal somehow belong together (when in fact they were pretty much polar opposites of the 80s metal scene). Anyway, there are a few musical genres I dislike, although there are usually a few exceptions for every genre: hair metal, metalcore, modern hard rock/post-grunge of the Nickelback/Creed variety, certain electronic music genres such as house and dubstep, most upbeat/straightforward hip-hop, Eurodisco/Eurodance, modern R&B, schlager, emo, Christian music ----- wow, listing all these genres makes me feel so close-minded

Yup, it's certainly one of the worst. It has produced only a few gems, but mostly it is no good.
However, there are some pretty bad pop albums that were not made in the 21st century.
Example: Please Please Me. |
In your own opinion, that is.

I can't stand Jazz music. I have no idea about all the genres, categories etc, but one thing I know: Every time that I listen Jazz playing I want to move away from it as soon as possible! I'm sure there will be nice songs etc, so maybe didn't happen to listen any of them. I grew up mostly with classical music, which means melodies, harmony, big orchestras, etc. So maybe that's why I like so much all these classic orientated Prog bands, and I can't stand Jazz...
