I think the abilities of both of them are woefully misrepresented - the measure of a good drummer is time keeping, not flamboyancy. Ringo may not have been the best drummer in the Beatles, (and that was a typical Lennon joke that people take far too seriously), but he played on all but 3 (or 4) of their songs and I've yet to hear a Beatles song where I thought "Oh, that needs a better drummer...". Nick played on all Floyd songs until The Wall (Mother) and The Final Cut (Two Suns in the Sunset) ... he didn't drum much on AMLoR because he felt he was too out of practice (that's a confidence issue, not an ability issue), again I've yet to hear a Floyd song where I thought "Oh, that needs a better drummer...". However I have heard many Prog songs that I though could have been improved if the drummer had just reigned it in a little.
What?

I'll give it to Mason for the early Floyd work, but this is easily the closest of the all these comparisons.

Nick if you take the early period. Ringo was never a bad drummer (Tomorrow Never Knows and Day In The Life show he was actually quite good at times)

If you hit these two eggs against each other, they both will break ... or both will be well.

Perhaps considered the weakest link on both bands, which drummer do you like better, Nick Mason or Ringo Starr?
