Well I like Muse a lot. Saw them at Wembley Stadium when they recorded the H.A.A.R.P DVD and also at Cardiff International Arena.
Sheer energy and bravado and once compared to another 3 peice band that had a lot of attitude and such. Bellamy plays the whole rock star thing to the hilt and quite rightly so given his amazing talent.
Also worth noting that they all grew up together in a little fishing village in Devon (Teignmouth) and are now a massive international success.
 Clap

Probably my favourite Muse track

I'm not pleased with the direction this thread took.  I think we're a more friendly community, generally, than certain comments in this thread indicate.

I haven't listened to much Muse, so I don't have an opinion on the band's progtitude, but it has been discussed a number of times.

What I think neat is that people's kids are exposing them to Prog and progressive music generally.  About the most progressive music I've been exposed to thanks to my kids is the Wiggles.  I love the Wiggles, though, and they have some rather avant-garde music such as the surreal and amusing "I'm a cow". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5hHkdHBymc It may not be Muse, but it sure is a-moo-sing.

Rather than continue to argue I'll say:

I prefer Muse when they're doing a sort of Brit-pop thing than the approach on their more recent albums.

I just listened to them for the very first time today. I picked their last album: prog-related indeed, but also related to 80's garbage which I am not fond of. Good musicians with mainly mediocre repertoire in a tribute for tribute's sake-style, but also a few outstanding songs.
I was curious because they appeared on my daughter's facebook page as one of her favourite bands. I was quite surprised to find a band listed on PA there.

They're also damned good.

Your about 5 years late for the battle to get them on the archives, they're already here under Prog-Related. Absolution is a spectacular album.

Edit: Damn, ninja'd!

I'm new here and was wondering if anyone has discussed the modern band Muse as a valid addition to the prog archive? I came across them a few years back by way of my kids and as I listened I just got hooked. And then when I watched a DVD of their live performance I was just blown away by their lead singer,   Matthew Bellamy. He can play the guitar like Jimmy Hendrix, then switch to piano and play like Elton John.

I was very excited about this band because here was an act that really hearkened back to the good old days of bands being serious musicians, symphonic masters, and incredible showmen.

I'm not sure I would really place them firmly in the prog category, but for sure in a symphonic rock genre. But they do exemplify many of the outstanding qualities of prog artists through the years.
