Yeah I really respect morningrise's work because he's doing the effort all by himself, doing a great job and i'm having a blast in the tournament, but the average tiebreak it is a little strange. In this particular round the average rating per album would have been more fair because both bands have similar amount of albums with lots of ratings... Anyway, I love both bands so is ok for me

They should be calculated by every 100 ratings or something. Obviously, if it were between TMV and say, Birds and Buildings, who have only one album and many great ratings, TMV would win.

But Beardfish has a significant amount of ratings, and if it were decided like that, they would win.

Ratings are overrated, anyway....

Far better to do average rating per album; this would give Beardfish 3.95 and The Mars Volta 3.834, so Beardfish win.

Honestly it's a pretty problematic system what you have there. Say a band has a random album with only a few ratings and the average is close to 5 stars then it raises the entire average a fair lot, even though hardly anyone listened to the album.

These contests are much based on band popularity, and so it makes sense that most average ratings win the competition. And anyway no one's actually losing... It's a poll....

I would say Beardfish have overall better ratings than TMV.

Well said. Nobody is winning or losing anything, apart PA that has attracted some Spock's Beard fans recently.

To calculate, for example, Beardfish's average:

http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=2808

Fran En Plats Du Ej Kan Se: 58 ratings
+
The Sane Day: 87 ratings
+
Sleeping In Traffic 1: 187 ratings
+
Sleeping In Traffic 2: 288 ratings
+
Destined Solitaire: 191 ratings
+
Mammoth: 222 ratings
=

1033 (this total divided by the numer of studio albums, in this case
6, gives us an average of 172.17)

How you calculate those avg? I don't remember if you explained this before so sorry if you did...
He really did it. That´s probably summa of average ratings on Prog Archives reviews. But I think this calculation is slightly unfair. I would welcome rather simply average of appropriate albums of each band.
