Jethro Tull vs. Genesis - Progressive Rock Music Forum

Two of the very best - but Genesis for me.

While TAAB and APP can match Genesis in their prime (71-78) nothing else really can. If I made a combined top 10 - Genesis would hold 7or 8 of those positions.

Yes, that's my vote and my own rationale, too. Well, JT is my all-time fave album.

Genesis this time around, but with all due respects for Tull for sure.

JT... TAaB and Aqualung beat any Genesis album, although I seem to be in the minority that thinks so.

Two highly song oriented prog rock bands, if anything while Yes and ELP had longer instrumental sections. I think giselle means that something like Marillion v/s IQ is more comparable but it doesn't have to be THAT similar.

I'd argue that if they were the same kind of band, it would be harder to establish points of difference where preferences diverge. I cannot really say who of Zach Stevens and Russell Allen I like more because they are similar kind of singers with their strengths cancelling off but I definitely like Jeff Buckley more than either, a completely different kind of singer. That both Genesis and JT are progressive rock bands which don't veer too much into freeform or atonality, but with divergent influences, makes them eminently comparable to me. But to each his own.

As I'd say that I like both apples and oranges, but like apples more.
