That's not true AT ALL. Confused

The loudest, the hardest, the toughest, etc, are terms that MANY (have to be precise because seems that people can't understand figures of speech) bands use to describe themselves.

But when a band uses a term like Glam (which has negative connotations) to describe themselves...I believe them.

And when a band dresses like this:

To promote their greatest hits...I confirm what I suspected.

But you always say, when you reject suggestions for Symphonic, that we shouldn't care if the bands call themselves symphonic, or prog, because what the bands say isn't reliable at all. I guess you only say this when it favours your point of view LOL Tongue

Of course Harmonium

  1. My personal experience creates my opinion
  2. The printed material, photos, interviews and web pages are used ti support my opinion.
Unlike other persons I don't claim that X band plays Prog or Rock or Glam Rock or whatever because I say so. Much less I call ignorants to those who disagree with me, I give my opinion and I support it with whatever is available.

When we add a band to Symphonic, we rely in our opinion as a team, but what other sites say and the information provided by web sites is a useful aid to confirm what we think.

Iván.

I agree, wouldn't dare to talk about a band I don't know.

I grew with The Sweet, I danced "Ballroom Blitz" in every party since I was 13, had all the albums ffrom "Funny how Sweet Co-Co Sweet Can Be" (1971) up to "Level Headed" (1978) when I lost the interest in them, but I also listened everything they did until "Identity Crisis".

But when you enter in a discussion, you can't give your opinion exclusively, you have to give evidence, and what better than the one in their official site?

Every Metal band claims to be the hardest one, because that's some sort of achievement for them, very few claim to be a Glam band, because the term Glam is seen as derogatory by some fans.

No, but the case is different.

Every Metal band claims to be the hardest one, because that's some sort of achievement for them, very few claim to be a Glam band, because the term Glam is seen as derogatory by some fans.

Still The Sweet say with pride  in their official website that they are the epitome of the Glam movement (They could had said they were a Rock band, but no, they placed emphasis and with no shame in the Glam aspect), and with a good reason, because Glam bands made great music, I was never offensive with the band, i said they made great rock tracks, but seems that some fans feel offended when their favorite band is not cataloged as Prog, as if Prog was an award or an achievement.

There are great and terrible Prog bands, in the same way that there are terrible and amazing Glam bands, Bowie during this era did good music, hey, I even liked the pomp of bands like Europe, The Sweet made some amazing tracks, but they shout they are Glam, they dressed as Glam, they are recognized as pioneers of the Glam movement...Denying they were a great Glam band is absurd and full of prejudice.

This doesn't mean they are bad or brainless, they made great music, but Prog...................No way, not even a track IMHO.

If somebody feels offended with this...bad luck, I say my truth even if people don't like it.

Iván

Genres are a very vague concepts, and ever changing.
take a recognized prog band eg: Genesis, they werent prog anymore at some point, but still know as "progressive music" although it was closer to some pop form.

I dont know the sweet, im just bored. but most bands "goes with the flow" as a plublicitary move, maybe they felt they could gather more fans dressing like that and claiming to be glam? Kiss could fit into glam too, but they chose to say they are "the hardest band in the world" and people catalog them as metal(?)

my point is: do not believe what you read, specially in the internet. even if it comes from the source itself.

eg: I, Jörgemeister, claim to be the most progressive of the prog fans. LOL

Cheers.

Multiple votes are allowed. You can actually try it. Though that´s primarily thought as voting for several favourite options, not for multiple clicking for one option. This one wouldn´t be permitted.Thumbs Down

Regarding your first idea, I mean it would be more fair. But it´s for longer debate.

The Who And Deep Purple ARE Proto Prog. Therefore they aren´t counted to "Real" Prog. They are on PA but somewhat on the margin.
About b*****dization of the poll by some clicker it´s a pity and I didn´t expect this.

Green Day Hug That's all I have to say in this thread.

Oh wait, I voted for Telegraph Road. Some heavy metal fans around here have way too much time on their hands, considering the votes certain songs have gotten.

Since Ivan has mentioned the Rolling Stones, I'd like to nominate Can't You Hear Me Knocking.
