Maiden easily. The better band is the one that has better, stronger discography and that are definitely Maiden.
Maiden have 8 superb studio albums (debut, Killers, TNotB, Piece of Mind, Powerslave, Somewhere in Time, 7th Son of a 7th Son and Brave New World in the newer period) while Metallica have only 3 superb albums (Kill'em All, Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets) and two pretty good (And Justice for All and Black album). So the obvious winner for me are Maiden.
And I prefer 80's Maiden's albums over Metallica's 80's albums.

IMO, Iron Maiden are by far the superior musical entity here. I really like Metallica up to AJFA but after that I'm basically bored by them other then a few songs here and there. But even Metallicas cream de jour pales in comparison to the mighty Maidens best efforts.

Maiden is still outstanding live, while Hetfield has lost that bite in his voice (still sounds good though) and Kirk/Lars have been too much below par on stage.

Iron Maiden.

For me they have a case for being the most consistent band in rock. And their best easily trumps Metallica's best if you ask me.

Metallica. All hail Thrash. I just don't care for Iron Maiden's style at all. Not enough balls for my taste (which never comes out right).

By the way, I miss Gandalff.

Iron Maiden. So many albums, and such a high density of quality material.

Metallica's not bad, but Iron Maiden is one of my favoritess.

Not a fan of either band....but if I had to listen to one I would go with Maiden.

I'm really impressed with Tomas Haake and Brann Dailor as drummers right now.
Oh - I thought Trujillo contributes his 25 % to the process ??

maybe he contributes his 25%, but I said more LOL
come to think of it, what can he do when Lars is so uninspired these days.

Trujillo is a very good bassist, if only they would let him participate in the writing process more; unfortunately, Lars cannot drum to save his life... And Kirk tortures that wah wah...

But boy do I love Death Magnetic. I'm kinda over their initial phase (Kill 'em All - And Justice) then went off them from the Black Album onwards. Then DM comes along and I don't even return to Puppets anymore......
Maiden - The X Factor - just BRILLIANT.........

Death Magnetic did not do much for me, the songs drag quite a bit, they don't trim the fat, same mistake they made on St Anger.
It's not that easy to make a long song work if they don't have the skill and inspiration, and these days, sadly, they don't.
