Yep was the Radio One theme songespecially composed for their launch (in 1967?). I remember seeing VDGG performing this on The Beat Club.Good stuff.
btw other artists who have covered Theme One include Nick Magnus (included on Inhaling Green) and Cozy Powell (ones that I know of anyway)

It's "Theme One." I actually have the U.S./Canadian LP with that song in between "Lemmings" and "Man-Erg." It's a nice and catchy song, but very out-of-place. It was composed by George Martin (yes, that George Martin) rather than any of the band members, and it shows. I'm glad that the CD version I have moved it over to the bonus tracks. |

when i first heard Van Der Graaf Generator's album Pawn Hearts-a Canadian lp copy, in between the two main tracks on side one, was a short, completely instrumental track, could not have been more than two minutes long, but i remember it had some totally awesome sax in it, and it blew me away-i felt that it was the best thing on the whole record
i have not had that lp for a long time, and on a Cd copy of Pawn Hearts i bought years later, this track did not even exist-cannot remember the name of it, but it was great |

Camel's Supertwister has more proggy goodness in three and a half minutes than most twenty minute epics.

The wall PF has short tracks and they are all great
But i think theres some great short tracks by Rush - such as Closer to the Heart
or even Farewell to Kings.
ELP did some awesome stuff in a short period on 'Tarkus' album apart from the epic.
and of course short bits on Jethro Tulls first albums such as Stand Up, Benefit and Aqualung.
So many trackds I can think of by Dream theater that are short from Awake, and Metropolis 2.... and Octavarium.

There are so many of them. Aqualung and Locomotive Breath come to mind, especially the former. Lots of Genesis and Gentle Giant has been mentioned. The Red album has the amazing title track and One More Red Nightmare. Trees by Rush.

Dark Side of the Moon has one seven-minute track, and two six-minute tracks. Other than that, the songs are fairly short.

Are talkin', like..."Grace" and "Cheerio" short? Because if so, Tull's got some good ones...uh..."Cheap Day Return" and "Nursie," for example.
