^ But does that really diminish the good of happiness? If you know that the path of instant gratification isn't the one to follow you would (or I guess I should say) you should follow a different path to happiness. Is that happiness any less satisfying?
As for the poll...I should of voted for life. Sure, some animals are annoying and decrease the enjoyment of life, but a few bad apples (at least comparitively) shouldn't spoil the batch. But life on the other hand...

Happiness is overrated.
Too many people now seem to think that happiness is purely based on the satisfaction of one's immediate needs and desires that the whole concept almost disgusts me now.

Love is the most overrated of these. I think it's kind of a flawed thing to begin with, and I'm genuinely not saying this due to failed love or anything like that... I've just thought about it a lot. A LOT.
Life: Without it there'd be nothing whatsoever, (just matter and energy, nothing to experience it) it can't be overrated. Happiness: This can't be overrated; let's be clear, happiness isn't, "Oh Yay, I'm excited about everything, tee hee." No, it's peace of mind, enjoying life, all of that. Artistic Expression: Not AS essential as life and not as important as happiness, but it is imo the greatest achievement of man-kind. Animals: Humans are animals too. Moving on. Sensory Perception: Basically life without sensory perception is just meat, alive but unfeeling, unseeing etc... meat. Not overrated.

^ I think who say happiness is overrated are just bitter. Happiness is very real, it just isn't always in the package we may prefer.

I really don't understand how happiness could be overrated... So is sometimes not desirable to be happy? ![Confused Confused](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif) Let's define happyness....
Now artistic expression, on the other hand.... is glorious, but overrated by some

"Holmes, what do you conclude from this poll"? "My dear Watson, it is elementary. The originator is deeply disappointed from a failed love affair. Now he considers life to be overrated because he is considering suicide, which I sincerely hope he will abstain from..." "Wait, Holmes, how do you know the originator is a man? It might as well be a woman. "My dear Watson, only the highly rational and organized brain of a man could concoct such a list; a woman would merely have acted on impulse, with perhaps the exception of irene Adler. But let me continue: He considers suicide, that's why he thinks life is overrated. He considers happiness to be overrated because he wants to play down his current unhappiness, He is not an artist of whatever kind, painter, writer, composer or the likes, else he would express his feelings in an artistic way. Since he can't do that he considers artistic expression to be overrated. I am actually pretty certain he has a kind of bureaucratic job like accountant". "What gives you that impression, Holmes"? "His way of making a list even in such an emotional matter makes it almost a certainty. But let me continue. That he considers love to be overrated is immediately understandable since his own love just failed". "And why animals, Holmes"? "His own sole companion now is his pet, which is most probably a German shepherd; bureaucratic types have a special liking for this breed. Since it can't give him the consolation he needs right now he considers animals to be overrated". "But why sensory perception, Holmes"? "Isn't it obvious, Watson? He considers sensory perception to be overrated because he asks himself how he could ever have fallen for the beauty of this woman, the sound of her voice, the smell of her skin, the touch of her hair, the taste of her mouth when kissing". "Holmes, you have outdone yourself on this one". "My dear Watson, I assure you it was nothing but a trifle".

That's quite brilliant (Why ain't you a published author ?) ![Clap Clap](smileys/smiley32.gif) I voted for sensory perception as it's not the first time I've snuggled up to the cat thinking it was Mrs L...

Artistic expression. But my opinion may be biased: while I have to get up on 7 o'clock to go working, my brother sleeps until noon, because he spent his night in a club, being the DJ, having concerts, recording an album and all that jazz. And I'm the one who pays the bills!!!

Life: It's pretty important. Though I think Death is a bit underrated myself.
Happiness: Pretty overrated, though not as much as...
Artistic Expression: Which a lot of the time is a bunch of bull, even though I adore some of the effects of this overrated substance. I voted for.\
Love: To me is pretty much second to life.
Animals: WAAAAY better than humanity.
Sensory Perception: WTF?

Happiness because it's the most difficult thing to achieve.
You can make anyone or at least some one love you.
Artistic expression is also hard to achieve but it doesn't make everyone happy.
Animals are so tasty.
I love my senses or else I don't think I would know if I am.

I voted for happiness. People say, "Go out and achieve your dreams! Seek your happiness!"
I say, "No thanks. Trying to achieve things is too difficult. And I'm perfectly fine with being unhappy."
Artistic expression is pretty cool, but it is a bit overrated as well. Love is also overrated. Life, animals, and sensory perception, on the other hand, are not overrated.

I've been overrated on many occasions.
