Hi,

In general, I would say Amazon for almost all prog anything ...

But there is one problem ... they wouldn't know what is prog from a feather up their butt! But you can find just about anything in there since it is worldwide ...

In general, you should search for the bands, even old ones on the Internet and you will find links and they usually have some stuff through them ... and then there are some that do not ... for example, Alan Stivell either has the worst management on this side of the earth, or he simply doesn't care for anything that has been recorded ... many of his albums are not even listed on his website! And I'm not selling mine, even on Amazon!

All the Klaus Schulze, AshRaTempel and Tangerine Dream, I get direct now ... might as well support the artists properly and take out the middle man ... and the prog distributors that don't care either!

I have used Doug Larson a lot, and he's fairly good, although his catalogue listing is not always up to date and I'm not sure he can keep up with it! Eurock is really eccentric and Archie will always be that way! Wayside I did not get good service from and never bought from them again. Musea ... let's say that they don't speak English and are not capable of saying anything about any bands to help us check them out. At least Archie had a sampler that helped some.

And that's about it ... for more modern prog, I would use the band's links or website ... if that band does not have any website or control of their music, I can almost guarantee you that no one will know them tomorrow.

But we in Massacusetts are lucky to have a fantastic chain, Newbury Comics, that carries plenty of prog.  And most of it is on sale the first week it's released.  (Plus, the owner, Mike Driese, is a great guy)

I do believe I got something mail order from them once.  I think it was probably through half.com. Big smile
I remember thinking, a comic store selling CDs?  Interesting.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

Buy some of the albums as mp3 downloads. That way you can lower the overall/average price of the albums.Smile

When you can buy many DVDs for less than 8 bucks, it's irritating to spend more than that on CDs. :/

I find a lot on amazon for low prices, through their marketplace dealers. Some CDs, I end up paying more on shipping than I do on the price of the CD itself there.  Pinch

I've found it to be a good place for cheap new stuff, which is mostly what I buy these days.  But you can connect with a variety of individuals and independent stores for used and new stuff.  The prices are fixed so if you don't like the e-bay haggling you can find some good deals.  I've seen some outrageous prices offered for out of print stuff, but sometimes you can find a good deal,

If you need to go cheap you need to go used.  half.com is my favorite, though amazon does used also.
