To me:
KEITH EMERSON
He's got the talent musically, stage presence, knowledge, and sheer love for the job. He continues to play as hard as he can, even tho sometimes the pain is great and you can see it in his face... and even when he shakes those hands out... he doesn't lose a note...

Yeah, sure have. Do you have the 'Making Of Snow' DVD? Unforetuneatly I don't but would like to hear oppinions!![](smileys/smiley2.gif)

Don't you mean "Making Of V"? I didn't know there's a "Making Of Snow" DVD. Anyway, "Making Of V" is very nice. You can see the musicians at their homes, jamming in the studio in California and recording some parts for the "V" album. There's also some bonus material like Neal and his brother Al playing at one guitar at the same time! Very cool stuff!

Perhaps we should define what we mean by talent.
Techincal musical ability?
Or songwriting talent, and that special certain 'something'??
Ability to play the spoons and the Mellotron at the same time, while reciting Psalms backward.
In the case of musical ability I think Robert John Godfrey of The Enid should be considered. He trained as a concert pianist, and can be regarded as a composer more than just a 'songwriter'

Mike Oldfield, because he plays basically he makes his own albums and he plays all those instruments by himself. Well, he's not much of a lyricist, I guess, but he's a man of many talents. Mind you , he's not my favorite artist, but if someone is the most talented...
Okay, if it's about rock and not progrock, then Paul McCartney would also be my choice. Or Prince... Not that I buy their records (I don't, I really don't , honest) but the talent is there in abundance.

i think the dream theater guys deserve a mention, everyone is always complaining that they use too much of their talents as musicians.

Do you mean ROCK and not PROG ROCK? in the case of the former I vote Paul McCartney
In the case of the latter Mike Oldfield.Even if he dosen't sing and isn't a lyricist.
The late great Ollie Halsall (Patto)is another nomination as is Todd Rundgren.

Its so hard to identify one person as the most talented Rock musician.
It pains me to say it, but a strong case could be argued for Phill Collins. Brilliant rock/jazz drummer, great prog singer, pop singer/songwriter. He's versatile and highly successful.
I'm inclined to think that someone like Rick Wakemen or Tony Banks are among the most talented in terms of their technical ability, and all round musical knowledge and background.
Rush are obviously enormously talented too. As individuals they are masters in their fileds, and as a trio they are a musical phenomenon!

In my opinion to have a talent means to use it well.
I do nominate:
- peter hammill for his gift of voice and songs, although he is sometimes (mostly) too dark.
- peter gabriel for his imaginations and skills with no frontiers
- phill collins cause he is a perfect drummer, singer and composer
- other guys from genesis because in the age of 20 the had started to make absolutely mature and deep music (trespass)
- the all times YES-associates with chris squire being the first among them
- rush since in trio they sound like the best-off orchestra
- dezo ursiny
