Interesting. Woulda figured that Purple would be in the lead; they always seemed the "proggiest" to me.
My vote is for Rainbow.

Scott had it nailed... Area. One of the big 5 of Italian Prog. Presently mislabelled in Jazz-Rock. Area were in fact an "international popular group",
as the cover of
their first album says, with greek singer Demetrio
Stratos coming from the beat group I Ribelli, french bass player Djivas and
belgian sax player Busnello. Arbeit macht frei was an essential album in the italian rock of the 70's, full of different influences yet totally original in its sound. Stratos' voice is stunning, used like an instrument, and the backing band is powerful, formed by top quality and inventive musicians. Some jazz and eastern folklore influences are easily distinguished, and the music is not easy to categorise. The group image was characterised by the style of Cramps label designer Gianni Sassi, that added a distinctive visual style to their music. Second LP, Caution radiation area, was more
experimental with tracks like Lobotomia and ZYG (Crescita zero) The strong political influences in Area music emerged in their rendition of the popular socialist hymn L'internazionale, released as a single in 1974 and a concert classic, as demonstrated in the 1975 live LP Are(a)zione.
fascinating group..... |

I believe that I saw somewhere somebody comment that that was Area in Micky's signature, but I'm not positive that that is correct. But I definitely think it is one of the Italian bands.

I'm a big DP fan, but check out Zep's 3 set box How the West was Won.... A really good deal... Even though I'm a much bigger fan of DP than Led I really enjoy Led and have them much respect. |

Gees... You're that Led had different styles!? check out each DP MK they're all different but great (for me, a MK3and4 lover). The three of them have their complex songs and the simple songs. Even though I voted DP of course, I just wanted to make an aclaration about what you said. |

Deep Purple!! I like them the best because they sound the most straightforward. Black Sabbath sounds more complex and Led Zeppelin sounds a bit overblown and the use of different styles give them a bit of a disjointed feel about them. They should stick to hardrock

Likes Led Zep best, but voted Sabbath because they have too few votes. Deep Purple never interested me.

Zep. No comparison. There's something to be said for a stable lineup.
