I found this to be an awesome year for prog...one of the best for a long time.
Did anybody find mostly new acts to be responsible for this?

Snakes & Arrows
After correction for hypes and other types of overexposure, there is a reason why big names are big.

Out of those 8 candidates I've heard 5 and they're all to me records of one or two stars, popular prog, I'd say. So I refuse to vote, there's no candidate to earn the name!

I'd say its been a poor year for prog. Nothing very special same in, although the options pretty much list the relative quality very well. "Fear of blank planet" probably edges out the most here, voted for Porcupine Tree.

I really did not like any of the albums this year very much quite honestly. I think Paradise Lost is the only DECENT album this year that I've heard, let alone the best. Why is Systematic Chaos even on the list? I wouldn't say it really sucked that bad but I wouldn't say it is even a good candidate for the list. Though I still haven't heard Fear of a Blank Planet, but my prog-loving friends all said it was good, so I guess I'll go with that.

I'm sorry, I just don't get the Blank Planet appeal.. this year many terrific prog albums came out by Aviva, Zip Tang,Oaksenham, Planet X, Holding Pattern, Blotted Science, Anekdoten, Sleeping People... heck 'Snakes and Arrows' is better, yet FoaBP its well on is way to becoming album of the year
...fascinating

My favorite album is Night by Gazpacho, followed by Into The Night by Satellite and then some... However from this list it's PT's FoaBP.

To be the one who seeks so I may find .. (Metallica)

I voted for PT-FoaBP.
Your list is missing Satellite, Phideaux, and Oceansize! (although I still would have voted for PT)
Anesthesize is definitely the best song of 2007.

Marillion from the list.
I finally listened to Sieges Even's Paramount album - simply beautiful album, one of the best things i've heard this year frankly.

Personally I don't see the attraction of PT. Sure they are good musicians and the albums are enjoyable, but they don't rank up there with the best for me. My best release of 2007 is not on the list: Phideaux: Doomsday Afternoon.
EDIT: from your list, I voted for Sola Scriptura... |
The same thing for me, Phideaux number one.
