I agree with this first sentence - I find the same thing with a lot of modern bands. And why aren't Pendragon and Glass Hammer in this poll? I voted for the Beard, mainly for Snow. |

Have not listened to TMV and others constantly mentioned so far. My vote definitely goes to Porcupine Tree - I am new to them but they have blown me away - a definite breath of fresh air! My other picks not on the list: Glass Hammer, DT and side project Liquid Tension Experiment

PORCUPINE TREE win hands down they are the most interesting and innovative bands I've heard in twenty years. They DO have a good vocalist he may not display the range of Hammill or Gabriel but he a very affecting voice which has a strange way of creeping across you and drawing you in I'm very much looking forward to the new album and tour

I like alot of these bands but the main difference from progs great days is that none of these have a great lead singer. The major bands had Anderson,Gabriel,Hammill,Lake, and Fish.I like alot of the music but the vocalists are mostly ordinary.Porcupine Tree are a very fine band as are the Flowers and IQ not on the list! and I have alot of time for Mostly Autumn with the wonderful Heather on vocals.Riverside sound very, very good and Arena should have a mention, their new album has some excellent moments.

Porcupine Tree. Although Transatlantic, Flower Kings, and one not on the list (Glass Hammer), are in the hunt.

If Dream Theater were on the list I would give my vote to them. They're
a long time favourite band of mine and without a doubt one of the most
influential prog bands of the 90's and the new millennium. DT is also
one of those prog bands that attract audience from "the non-prog camp."
(The Mars Volta is one of those, too.)
But since the list doesn't contain DT, I cast my vote on Mars Volta. Frances the Mute is the best album I've heard in a long time. It sounds fresh, full of new ideas, rich compositions. The future of prog music lies in this band. That is the fact. |

The Mars Volta have been mentioned in all places of internet as a great new prog band, i don't know why...Anglagard is in my opinion much better. My vote goes to the swedish group.

I haven't really been keeping up with current prog bands, but Porcupine Tree has always blown me away. I'll go with them.

If you think all those bands sound the same, you must not have heard many. And the person who referred to them as neo-prog has obviously not either. Sure I'm not into Spock's Beard or The Flower Kings either, but bands like Anglagard and Anekdoten I really enjoy, and find nothing 'neo' and little that's derivative in their music. |

It's okay, I actually forgot to mention this beforehand, so it's probably a good thing that you made your post |
