I used to have this horrible compilation of second rate italian love songs performed by second rate singers and musicians. It consisted of 2 CD's and only cost 5 euros. Thus I ended up buying it, about three years ago, I think, and gave the first disc one spin, then never touched the compilation again. Some time ago I simply threw it away as it just ended up taking space in my CD shelf. I was too embarrassed to even consider taking it to a second hand CD shop...

edit: I only read the first post in this thread after I had made my original post so will give this another try...

The CD that would probably be considered embarrassing in a progger's collection but which I honestly still like to listen to every now and then is...

"New Jersey" by the one and only Bon Jovi

Call it nostalgia for those wonderful teenage years... lol

Hmmm, of mine, I would have to say Chicago 17-19, yes I have them all, and I enjoy them

It must be "Pan Flute plays International Greatest Hits"...

It's one of my mother's 3 CDs, and it is BOOOOOOORING to death; those maya, or inca, or aztec people, they thought they could play everything on that damn flute...

Okay, here it is:

Yanni - In My Time.

This is actually a gem. He mostly plays acoustic piano and this doesn't have the bombastic stuff that he slays people with, just some nice atmospherics. It is an amazing, beautiful CD. If you like keyboards then this one is a must!!! I used to have some other Yanni stuff way back when and either sold it or threw it out, then I heard this on the radio and it blew me away. Go buy it and hide it under the pillow, but seriously, this CD is excellent.

Jean luc Ponty's "Fables", Triumvirat's "spartacus and Pompeii", The first album from TRACE, and I think there are two or three Alan parson's on a box somewhere.

Nothing embarrasing about them. Good looking girls plays some music, sometimes quite pleasant music. Do not think I would buy any of their albums, but I would not mind to watch the video on rare occasion.

Most embarrasing CDs that I have are : two last by Garden Wall and "Universe" by Edhels. All three costed me alot of money, I had great expectations towards each of them, and I completely disliked the music on each. That was total embarassement, complete disappointment, let down and waste of money.

Contenders:

Yes -- Tales From Topographic Oceans, Queensryche -- Operation Mindcrime, Rush -- Caress of Steel

I'm sure I still own other embarassing albums, but these come immediately to mind.

Since this has been resurrected yet again I'm going to have to do it...I've summoned the courage...

Mariah Carey's sensational debut album - "Mariah Carey"

Ah yes, I well remember the days of the "Tea Kettle" and with much fondness... Mariah, Mariah, Mariah, where did it all go so wrong?

The funny thing is even all the women in my life are _horrified_.

Got this in my early teens whilst still living at home with my parents, not sure what to expect when I cranked the LP up on the old music centre. Suffice it to say it didn't go down at all well. Had to buy headphones before I was allowed to listen to it again (he was apparently a very rude man!)

I don't really have any albums I'm embarasssed of. The closest thing would probably be a compilation of 80s hits, with Kasey Casem's name all over it.

So that's why it sounds so good! Actually it sounds good because it was done by Yes's Trevor Horn. So in fact it was the best album that Yes never made!

By the way if Cass Elliott had shared her ham sandwich with Karen Carpenter, they'd both be alive today...
