I specialize in bass, but i play guitar, mandolin, ukelele, and some keyboard.
I generally come home from wherever I am and pick one of the instruments up. I'll play for hours just out of habit and I think it helps develop my muscle memory. Play along with commercials, bass-slap out a drum beat I'll hear outside, etc...
All my training is informal, but its all good because I have a good ear for music. I listen to everything prog-related (from Beefheart to Styx to Opeth) and I play accordingly.

I play the drums. I have played for 12 years now. I go to a special school of arts for jazz and theory. A lot of kids who get there go to berklee and all of that stuff. I love to play jazz. I also love fushion. I can play just about anything from Punk, Funk, Jazz, Noise Rock, Fushion, Death Metal, just about anything probably.
I am in a few bands. I have a punk band, an avant band, and a noise rock band. I practice about 1-2 hours a day. Today I practiced for maybe 3? I really love to play and I draw a lot of my current tricks from zach hill and brian chippendale.

I'm a Percussionist, been playing now since 5th grade. I play mostly in Rock or Jazz situations.
I'm a sucker for anything in 6/8, but I love to delve into odd-time grooves like 7/8 or 5/4.

I'm sure that like myself, many of you are musicians. I'd like to here what you guys play and what styles you're into. I'd also like to hear how long you've played and how much you practice etc. I'm just curious...I play guitar, it's been about 6 years, though I played trombone in high school advanced jazz before that, so...I think this is my 9th year 'musical study'. My practice time varies from 15 min to about 4 hrs depending. (on average). I'm no superhuman freak that can practice for 9 hrs. or whatever. I think it's more about what and how you practice, rather than how much. I practice scales and modes (same thing), jamming to prog albums, and pure plectoral mechanics (picking). I'm also trying to reinforce my music reading skills, though they are poor I admit (it's tedious!). Anyway, I like to play fusion style ala di meola or mclaughlin. I don't claim to be as good as them, but I try! I also make it a point to use exotic scales and odd riffs. Also, my favorite time signature is 3/4. musicians...tell me of yourselves!
