Ian Gillan without question. Maybe if Glenn had been lead, there would be some contest, but even then Ian would win by a mile. One listen to Child in Time should seal it.

Agreed....again. Why would this even be a poll? No contest. I'm not even bothering voting.

Despite I voted for Gillan, that vocal line is absolutely tasty! (and don't foget the awesome chorus!)

Good Lord his solo album 'Private Eyes' is terrible. I voted for Ian Gillan, because I think he has a brilliant voice...

Ian Gillan! And not only because of "Child In Time" but much more so for "Strange Kind Of Woman" from "Made In Japan". The "battle" between voice and guitar is amazing. If you don't listen very closely you might be fooled by Gillan to believe that you're hearing the guitar.

Although I voted for Gillan I have to say that Hughes is my favourite vocalist to pass through Purple. Gillan is more suited to the Purple sound though.

Giligan was a Purple vocalist? Was Mary Anne his personal groupie?

Though I think Ian Gillan was the voice of DP, I voted for the one I enjoy most - Glenn Hughes, who is probably my favourite vocalist ever. Just listen to "This Time Around"... pure magic!

Gillan of course, the only other I like is Hughes. And I can't stand Coverdale.

Ian of course, although Glenn brought an extreme power to the vocals (together with Coverdale).

I prefer Coverdale... his voice just touches me the most !
Burn is my favorite Purple album, not only because of the music, but because Coverdale upgrades it.

Didn't Ronnie James Dio sing in the same band as Gillan ?
