Wait, I forgot to close my eyes! OK, now I've closed them. I can't see anything! I must be blind. (How can I tell if my eyes are open? What if I only see things when they're closed? )

When I was listening to Lark's tongues in aspic pt1, Muir's percussion made me see millions of coffee cups falling from the sky.

I see stars and ancient galaxies of celestial warriors seeking their seat amongst the gods. The image merges into high mountain meadows filled with columbine, Indian paint brush in red, purple and yellow. Forest fauna gather near a stream feeding the meadow for an afternoon drink as birds flitter and chirp about.
Then I open my eyes and see broken glass, twisted metal, flashing red lights, flames and blood, because listening to music and CLOSING YOUR EYES WHILE DRIVING IS A REALLY BAD IDEA!!!

Depends on what it is. Often imagery of all kinds... Larks' Tongues In Aspic pt. 2 is stabbing explosions in a sea of acid, slowly crawling up over an island of rock. Fracture... an earthquake, concluding in the world splitting apart and drifting into space. Lizard... a medieval tapestry juxtaposed with soft scenic cuts.

I see three green Ludwig Wittgensteins staring at each other disbelievingly. But I'm not listening to music right now.

Just out of curiosity-
What images do you see when you close your eyes while listening to music? I tend to see something almost like sheet music, each note as a dot, small or large depending on how loud it is. And colors- each instrument has a different color: guitars are silver, hammond organ is usually brown, flutes are yellow, bass is always black. Synths can have any color. The lead in Tom Sawyer- definitely red, while Xanadu is yellow. Pads and Strings fill in a background color. Behind all these notes flash quick images of the instrument itself and the artist playing it. Am I the only one seeing this? Am I off the deep end? |
I'm much the same, I don't even have to close my eyes to see the colours and patterns quite often. Each instrument playing has a different colour and sometimes each forms a a narrow line (can widen) and they twist and turn around each-other, they can converge and diverge. Up and down according to pitch which is similar to sheet music, as well as left to right generally, though some circle back when the music seems to reverse. Sometimes it swirls... I see it most as a sort of a tapestry of threads (with breaks or tears). Sometimes as dots or hyphens too, but always colorful and the pitch and tone changes the colours while the line change dimension during loud bits. As the music gets softer and finishes it goes dark. When it's loud it gets bright, and sometimes when there's a lot of instruments all together making a big noise it's like a big white light with other smaller colours in it. Another thing I often get is music blasting in my ears when there's no music sources around (blasting in my brain but it sounds external -- that can be extremely irritating).
