Being a prog metal fan, I would like to add two russian progressive death metal bands: Hieronymus Bosch and Tantal.

Bosch is especially wonderful.

The vocals , as usual with prog,  are acceptably good but not first rate (rarely are) . Does anyone out there know of this project? Igor, this should be in your neck of the woods! LOL

I have both the Sunchild albums and very good they are too; well worth checking out. Thumbs Up

Some News from From.uz!

Firstly, I should announce that Fromuz is now From.uz. This is due to a lineup change that took place back before the fall performances of the new material which have been entitled "Seventh Story." The rhythm section has been changed. Vladimir Badirov (drums/percussion) and Andrew Mara-Novik (bass) are no longer with the band. However, Vitaly Popeloff (guitars) & Albert Khalmurzaev (keyboards) have remained, so the core sound is the same.

Ali Izmailov (drums/percussion) and Sur'at Kasimov (bass) are the replacements. An additional keyboardist, Igor Elizov has been added, freeing Albert to play acoustic guitar & vibraphone.

I have been listening to the rough mix of the studio recording of "Seventh Story" and I must say that this new album is sure to please those who enjoyed the band before, but also dives into some new territory with grace and beauty. There has also been the addition of several vocal tracks, sung nicely by Vitaly Popeloff. The music is still predominently instrumental, continuing with the stylistic gymnastics the band has been known for.

The release will likely be late summer for the studio album and possibly by end of year for the Live DVD.

This should probably be posted somewhere besides just this thread.

Just thought some of you might like to know that FROM.UZ have recorded another live album, from two concerts given in Tashkent in September 2008 and are currently working on the studio versions.

Has anyone gone and listened to "OVERLOOK" by FROMUZ?    I know Garion has. Anyone else?

Also, something of interest, hopefully. Prairie Marmot Mercantile at Cafe Press now has some FROMUZ designs. I apologize for the shameless plug, but thought it might truly be of interest to someone.

For that matter, there are shirts there for just plain "Prog Snobs"

Anyway... I'm really curious what you all think of OVERLOOK!

Perhaps I should start a new thread. This one seems to have come unraveled.

All the same, it seems like the right place to refresh people's memories that 10T Records released "Overlook" by Fromuz last week. Tonight I found that you can stream the entire album, so you can fully check it out and see if you want to buy it, at Broadjam: http://snipurl.com/3qm57  [www_broadjam_com]

Actually, at that page you can listen to music from all of the artists at 10T Records --- but that would be a different thread. So, I'd love for you lovers of prog with a Russian accent to have a listen and tell what you think. I will say up front that I'm pretty jazzed about the album, except for 4 minutes 3/4 into the first track, where there is some tedious noodling (at least to my ears). Otherwise, I very much enjoy this one.

Fromuz will be releasing their sophomore release, Overlook, on 10T Records early this fall. Overlook is an instrumentatl studio album with 5 tracks, clocking in at 69 minutes.  Jeff Hodges of the band Man on Fire has done an outstanding job of mixing, and now the mastering, by Brad Blackwood is also complete.

Audio samples have been posted on the band's website: http://fromuzband.com/Overlook.html

I posted this in the RIO Drop in Centre thread but it's also relevant here:

Tribal Logic - Freaky Karma:
The press release notes:
"

TRIBAL LOGIC began in early 2006 in Chelyabinsk, the Ural city famous not only for manufacturing “Katyusha” and “T-34” during the WWII but also for its traditions in jazz-music. Not surprisingly, the majority of previous projects in which Anton Sheludko (keyboards, wind instruments), Alexei Savitsky (guitar), Konstantin Poptsov (bass) and Alexander Strashinsky (drums, percussions) got involved were jazz orchestras and ensembles. Discovering a unique chemistry of progressive rock, psychedelia with world-beat flavor, new-edged ambience, frenetic bluesy jams, and surreal instrumental soundtracks, the four decided to play together and push the frontiers of their own musical expressions. Their all instrumental music ranges from structured suites to extended improvisations with focus on melody, atmosphere, catchiness, and experimentation. While pensive and uneasy about the mixed reaction of local audience, the band relied on friends and family to spread the word about them. There is an album out available for free download at local website Chelmusic.Ru."

Press release notes:

Here come three names from the title. Who the hell are these guys? Is Comrade Wogulow that grey-haired bowed old man with the lustrous hateful eyes, "Chief Boss of the Globe Reconstruction"? Did Comrade Vermo graduate musical secondary school where he practiced folk-instruments and succeeded then as "an Electrical Engineer of Heavy Currents"? I don’t know… But as the name of Taroutz is concerned, Alexei is best known as a guitarist and master-mind behind instrumental avant-rock quartet I AM ABOUT ON THE LEFT. Since the end of 2006 when the four decided to cease their joint-venture, Taroutz has gained reputation as one of the most inventive and originally minded experimental composer scoring for cinema and making solo recordings. Ranging from micro-noise manipulations and ambient-drone sculpturing to academic minimalism and chamber-rock music, Taroutz’s solo works are always deeply rooted in documentary visual performance often self- cinematographed and directed.

On May 29, 2008 WOGULOW, TAROUTZ, VERMO played their stage-debut as a duo of Alexei Taroutz (guitar, electronics) and Evgeny Grinko (drums, percussions).

I'll be adding both bands to PA in the coming month and review their new albums.
