I will be in Ćervar the whole summer (apartment place 6 km from Poreč on the road to Novigrad). We could drink some beer this summer on Motovun film festival
I can recomend you only "Time" (croatian band from 70') and "Leb i sol" (Macedonian band) and "Buldožer" (Slovenians).

This summer I will be in Histria for the secon time (a small village near Porec will be my home...). I'm curious to find some good Croatian prog...is there any good contemporary bands from croatia or some classic ones from the Yugoslavian 70s I should look for?

Well done Andrea.
Spectrum is amazing album. Tommy Bolin's guitar is impressive.
If you like this one try also Cobham's "Crosswinds".
Passport and their album "Looking thru" was actually my introduction to jazz/rock especially after their concert in Zagreb 1974.

Just recieved in the post:
Hiromi: Sonicboom. Japanese pianist whiz , here with Dave Fuze Fuiczynski guesting. Out in the US already, out in the UK/Europe later this month. Lots of complexxpiano pyrotechnics, and Fuze slipping into the line-up as guest, very well, but without surrendering his distinctive sound. The accompanying press release talks about Hiromi being the 'new progressive fusion', here with her 5 th album. Wayne Krantz: Your Basic Live '06 - Krantz maintains his distance from the record companies in handling the complete production of his latest recording, including posting the CD out - check the customs declaration form on the envelope and there (in probability) is Krantz's autograph. Krantz is one of jazz rock's unsung heroes, a man who is a major improvisor of melodic and harmonic fusion, having an amazing bag of jazz and rock riffs. Support this indie artist, jazz rock fans will not be disappointed. Jaco Pastorius at the Montreal International Jazz Festival (DVD). At last people are making the effort to disinter recordings of Pastorius for DVD. For too long we only had Joni Mitchell's unsympathetic (to Pastorius fans) Shadows & Light ( i.e. avoiding showing footage of her sidemen blowing, by dropping other images onto the screen as they do their stuff), and apparently one hugely expensive Japan-only DVD. Weather Report at Montreux is out now or soon. Edited by Dick Heath - May 16 2007 at 12:23 |

I've bought a copy of a fantastic jazz rock album:
Spectrum by Billy Cobham (1973).
Well, I'm going on with my approach to jazz rock. Some of the albums I found are really stunning at the first listenings.
P.S. I still haven't found Bruford's One of a Kind... Edited by Andrea Cortese - May 14 2007 at 12:48 |

I'm cautious but very interested...
I am one of those who were blown away by The Romantic Warrior...
But all the three albums recommended of Weather Report are intringuing (Mysterious Traveller, Tales Spinnin' and Black Market).
Thanks!!
After having checked this band I will investigate ... Bill Bruford...!

I second this advice, but for different reasons. For me, Black Market's impact was/is so strong that in the two years passed since they first blew my mind, I liked it & still like it so much that I can not get over it and like something else they might have achieved. So, be cautious...

Like it However: don't play it to death (savor it as fine wine), and turn your radio off as soon as any tracks from Black Market are played - then it may last longer........................................ Then again might be the difference between a prog rock fan and jazz rock fan, similar to the argument whether Romantic Warrior or Hymn Of The 7th Galaxy is THE RTF album.............. |

Andu how can you disagree with what I prefer to listen to - and it is NOT an opinion. Sure, if you want an unbiassed opinion, for the uninitiated Black Market will be a mind-blower - but I've been familiar with that album from the day of it original release, and the over-exposure of certain tracks on radio etc, so I've moved on. Besides the thread -author commented on Mysterious Traveler, so I've commented/recommended my favourite WR Tales Spinnin' |

I strongly dissagre with the above opinion. Black Market is a jazz-rock materpiece and their true blueprint. The early Mysterious Traveller is, however, a strange hybrid, or rather displays the moving from ethnic flavoured jazz with little jazz-rock structures to their later heavy fusion, and I can not begin to like it despite I have tried several times. Also I have yet to listen to the selftitled album.
Anyway Black Market it's so good, that should rate - imo - in the top 20 albums of this site. It's also a great eye opener, it was one of the things that got me into prog, along Floyd's "Pompeii", Atomic Rooster's easy to understand, almost didactic prog, and Nektar's blend of Space, Psyche and Symphonic.
