I've been going through this thread and checking out a lot of the tracks mentioned, giving an ear to the harmonies. Some great stuff!
One band that hasn't been mentioned (and that I've been listening to recently) is Moon Safari. Some of the harmonies on the album A Doorway To Summer are terrific!

Almost all of Harmonium tracks are filled with wonderful vocal harmonies. The best example IMO is their live album En Tournée.
Apart from that, I agree with most of the classics and once again, I'd like to mention Pure Reason Revolution. These guys really surprised me this year. ![]() |

nothing I've heard has ever approached what Yes did with vocal harmonies.. it really was a part of their signature sound.

The vocal harmonies of Pure Reason Revolution on the album The Dark Third are exceptional! For me one of the greatest discoveries of this year.

For me, in symphonic prog, The Flower Kings, when they harmonise, are the best, but overall, 10cc were without doubt the masters of harmony, having four strong singers whose voices merged beautifully.
I think Yes are slightly overrated when it comes to harmonies. They are good, but not great (and I love Yes - at their peak they are in my top five bands. But I always found their vocals by far the weak point of the band. Just imagine how good a totally instrumental Yes could have been. Wonderful!)

Entangled by Genesis ( Collins' voice overdubbed in 4-part harmony )
Some harmonies by prog- metal group, Shadow Gallery come to mind. |

why haven't i seen Pain of Salvation yet in this thread? they have great vocal harmonies to.
Yes have the best ones: Close to the Edge (i get up, i get down), South Side of the Sky and the last part of Roundabout. although i don't like Coldplay, Fix You is a beautiful song with some great vocal harmonies aswell |

Yes on TALES. Anderson sings SATB parts in a lot of this!
Gentle Giant doesn't usually use vocal harmonies as much as vocal COUNTERPOINT. But it's still incredible. And let's not forget Queen and their wonderful ripoffs of Barbershop singing. Go listen to Bohemian Rhapsody! |

Harmonium, particularly the first two, have incredible vocal harmony arrangements in just about every song.

Frost's Milliontown has some awesome vocal harmonies. Of course, you can always go with A Night At The Opera.

Asides from the Eagles and other west-coast-oriented stuff ( England Dan & John Ford Coley came to my mind immediatly ) I'm deeply in love with the vocal harmonies BJH did on "Live Tapes", "One Night" in particular. I know they didn't always hit it perfectly but especially this gives a very unique feel to it, it's lifting me up !

Gentle Giant definitely has great vocal harmonies. I recently acquired Three Friends and I was really impressed. Prologue has some really interesting vocals.
