i have a virtual mellotron - it sounds great, takes up hardly any room, there are no messy tapes and the notes can go for longer than 8 seconds, and its not expensive!Big%20smile

Mello-T downloadable ReFill

For the ultimate in lo-fi nostalgia, this accurate sampling of the vintage Mellotron® and Chamberlin® tape-based keyboards brings an incredible sound sought after by so many musicians these days.

From the classic "Strawberry Field Flutes" to the ominous "Tron Choirs" to the moody blue sound of violins and strings, this value packed refill brings thousands of dollars worth of collectible vintage "Trons" to Reason's NNXT sampler.

not like the real thing obviously but a lotta fun..Wink

Well Sean, I play guitar and a tiny bit of keyboards (just a few chords), for me it was so special to play on a Mellotron and last year it finally happened for me, I visited a friend who ownes a Mellotron M400 ("that white piece of furniture"), if you press a key in the choir-section, it's keyboard heaven like Afterglow on Seconds Out by Genesis, the flute section was just like Strawberry Fields Forever and the violin-section is just like the bombastic eruptions by King Crimson, goose bumps! It was my dream to play on a Mellotron, I had already played a bit on a Hammond B3 organ and a Minimoog synthesizer but the Mellotron was the most impressive, it is also the most unique vintage keyboard, you can be a virtuosic Grand piano player but playing on a Mellotron is different, it requirs a totally other approach and technique, as Rick Wakeman said "the Tarantula grip" Wink

as a keyboardist and prog fan i wish i could play one sometime, even though i can't afford one.
my favourite mellotron performance is on king crimson's epitaph.

Another great Italian Seventies progrock album with wonderful vintage keyboards (including the Mellotron) is Opera Prima by Rustichelli & Bordini, .. if you are up to the emotional vocals Wink

Ouah, that's great! I also manage a CD reviews website, so I imagine it would be great to read that!

I find it's a fantastic album, I'm really into PFM, Le Orme, Banco also but I don't find what give me shivers in Zarathustra...

Well Anaon, Zarathustra by Museo Rosenbach was one of the first bands I reviewed on Prog Archives and even I received a grateful PM from their drummer after he had read my review, I am still very proud on that! The titletrack is one of the most beautiful epics I have ever heard, what a tension, what a compelling shifting moods and ... what a majestic Mellotron sound Clap

Thanks Thumbs%20Up it's some sweet pop, it's nice, she sings quite well but she is famous because she can play alone on stage, with a guitar and some effects for looping the other parts, I saw here on TV, it was quite impressive!

Anyway, it's a bit different from what I'm listening to at the moment: "Zarathustra" from Museo Rosenbach, I'm going sligthly mad about this album and mellotron parts in it, incredible!! Probably one of my favourite italian prog album at the moment.

No, James Blunt is just Cockney rhyming slang.

There is an album in the UK Top 10 at the moment which features a Mellotron. Big prize to the first person to guess which one I'm referring to.

You should be really happy with this soundtrack, some parts are really... how could I say in english... well "beautiful", it's the best word for mellotron anyway... :)

I'll be there for the Hammond article for sure!! :)
