For me it's gotta be... Cygnus X-I Book II. Haven't heard Jacob's Ladder in a while, must dig that one out again.

AN EPIC HAS TO BE LONGER THAN 15????? OK SO LETS DONīT CONSIDER AS EPICS SONGS LIKE STARLESS, HEART OF A SUNRISE, EPITAPH, NATURAL SCIENCE!
WHO DEFINES AN EPIC? CERTENLY NOT YOU!
ITīS THE MUSIC NOT THE LENGTH....

Ach, you know what, I should've included that one on the list... I love that track.

Am I the only one who really loves "Jacob's Ladder"? Or is not considered an epic because it's too short at 7:30min?

It was a grower for me Sweetnighter. I owned MP for over a year before I really 'got' that track. Very subtle stuff is going on in there and on first listening, it doesn't lend itself to being a classic, I'll admit that.

I'm also surprised that there aren't more 2112-ers voting for that
album. You think prog, you think Rush, then you naturally think 2112. I
mean it was never my favorite Rush epic - even though it is good - but
I never thought that my view of it would be so commonly held.

La Villa Strangiato.
Fantastic on CD, even better live.
A "stop your car and pull over and listen" song.

I went for Camera Eye too. I just adore the intro. It's the perfect build into the song and all those moogy squelches are just brilliant. It was an extrenely tough call though, as for me, La Villa Strangiato features Alex's best ever guitar playing, his solo there is amazing. Natural Science for the sound of that compressed lightly chorused electric guitar after the acoustic intro - mega. And the live version of Xanada from Exit - hard to top. They're all brilliant. But if I had to vote for one it would be Camera Eye from the best Rush album of them all MP

SLAP!!!
I like 'Camera eye' too. I love the build up more than anything. It took me quite a while to get into it when I first got Moving Pictures. It seemed rather repetitive for Rush. But it has a great atmosphere throughout, and good lyrics.

1) Villa Stangiato
2) Hemispheres
3) Camera eye
4) Natural science
5) Xanadu
6) 2112
7) Fountain of Lamneth
8) By Tor
9) Necromancer
10) Cygnus X-1
I always found the rythmic guitar sound on Farewell to kings very artificial and not elegant: it is very metallic can-like!
