Wow 12-5 this is beginning to become a landslide. Although it is a bit early to make speculations I think that these results reflect the personalities of prog fans pretty well. I think generally cats tend to be associated with more feminine qualities and dogs tend to be associated with more masculine qualities, which isn't to say that prog fans are feminine but one could say that we represent a larger spectrum of masculinity-femininity (tending to go towards the latter) than the public at large, which tend to prefer dogs over cats. Maybe prog fans are more in touch with their feminine side, because progressive rock has an emotional aspect to it. It's hard for me to put what I'm trying to say into words but all I'm saying is that if you went to a hip-hop or punk rock room, I would be willing to bet that the results would be inversed. OK I may be a little off on that theory but here's one that makes more sense. Cats are more introverted and dogs are more extroverted and they represent those aspects in people and those who share the same qualities tend to like the animal that reflects their personalities the most. I remember a while back that there was a poll where a resounding majority of those who completed the test ended up being largely introverted, while corroborates my theory of why prog fans tend to like cats more than dogs. That being said, I think cats, while not able to do many things that dogs can do and aren't as much fun as dogs can potentially be, are also not as big of a pain in the ass, and the pain in the ass that dogs are tend to outweigh any deficiency in cats, which makes cats the perfect pet.

Cats. They are like women. Rub them the right way and they'll purr, rub
them the wrong way and they'll scratch. Also they are independent and
demand attention when you least want to give it to them. And anyone who
is not of immediate interest to them gets ignored. I love 'em and am a
slave to two very fine members of the feline species.
